Marvel Congratulates ‘Jurassic World’ For Beating ‘The Avengers’ (Image)
  |  @   |

Marvel just made a classy move by conceding their box office title, once ruled by The Avengers, to Jurassic World. The Universal Pictures’ film grossed $208 million domestically last weekend, surpassing The Avengers‘ $207 million opening weekend back in 2012.

So to congratulate their rivals, Marvel has just released an image crowning Jurassic World the new box office king. Check out the image below.

The image below features The Avengers (l-r): Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Captain America, and The Hulk looking up at Owen Grady riding on a T-Rex with the caption “Marvel Congratulates Jurassic World On Being The New Opening Weekend KING!” Some of the Avengers are confused, while the Hulk seems a little agitated. The image was officially unveiled on Kevin Feige’s Twitter account. Just a classy move by Marvel.

The artwork comes from Marvel conceptual designer Andy Park. Park has been responsible for the look of each and very Marvel film you see. Without his concept art, we could be getting a completely different Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Jurassic World is out in theaters now. Be sure to check out our interviews with film stars Chris Pratt and Vincent D’Onofrio, as well as director Colin Trevorrow. Don’t forget to take a look at our review of the film as well.

  2. Jurassic World did NOT beat Avengers, despite what everyone is claiming and reporting.

The weekend for openings is Friday to Sunday.

For Avengers on Friday to Sunday grosses were counted.
For Jurassic World, they added Thursday grosses to the total. So Thursday to Sunday.

That is AN ENTIRE EXTRA DAY…and something like $20 million extra that they just added in to JW.

Avengers still has biggest domestic (USA) opening weekend, not adjusted for inflation.
