Remember back in February when it was announced that the never-ending Halloween franchise was preparing to spawn yet another installment of the kill crazy adventures of everyone’s favorite silent, slaughtering wraith Michael Myers? The word they were using this time was “recalibration,” because “reboot” had officially become so last decade.
It’s still happening, and whether or not that’s a good thing depends entirely on you. Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, the screenwriters of four Saw sequels, all three Feast flicks, the 2009 horror sleeper hit The Collector and its 2012 follow-up The Collection, and Piranha 3DD, are hard at work on the motion picture that is now being referred to publicly as Halloween Returns. Dunstan, who directed The Collector and The Collection, is also currently on board to direct.
Returns will be a co-production of Dimension Films and Trancas International Films and is scheduled to begin production next month. Potential plot details have been unearthed, and it appears that this latest Halloween will have little if nothing to do with the 2007 remake and 2009 sequel written and directed by Rob Zombie:
“”˜Halloween Returns’ will pit a new group of Haddonfield youngsters against Myers. The now 18-year-old child of one of Myers’ victims plays a central role along with the child of a cop whose long been obsessed with Myers’ case, even putting it before his own daughter.
Myers is now on death row and the two kids with their own personal vendettas against the killer sneak in to watch his execution. But when things go awry and Myers escapes, the pair, along with their friends, find themselves in the firing line.”
This will be the tenth movie in the Halloween series and the ninth to feature Michael Myers as the central villain (1982’s Halloween III: Season of the Witch told a completely different story). A few years ago, a 3D sequel went into development with the Drive Angry team of director Patrick Lussier and writer Todd Farmer, but progress eventually cooled.
Let’s see…in the next year or so we’re getting new Halloween and Friday the 13th movies, and yet another Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel. Somewhere, Jackie Earle Haley is sitting on his Freddy Krueger wardrobe, hoping he gets that call.

Actually,if this one gets to be filmed and released it’ll be both the 11th. HALLOWEEN film and Michael Myer’s 10th. film appearance.
