The GoD List: Comics For June 17, 2015
  |  @   |

Each and every week, I, “Day late!” Henchman 21 and “Dollar short!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of June 17, 2015.

Single issues and trades, they’re all here. We’re running behind already. You need a list of comics and we’ve got a list of comics for you. Let’s get The GoD List going!

Henchman 21

Southern Bastards #1 (Image Comics – $3.50) The third story arc of Southern Bastards starts with this issue, and if you haven’t been reading the series yet, this is the perfect place to jump on board. Southern Bastards is a fantastic comic series that just tells a real story of life in an Alabama town where football is king and the coach is the 2nd most powerful man, just behind God. Jason Aaron and Jason Latour have crafted a brutal story so far, full of bad men doing bad things and a good man trying to stop them. Southern Bastards also has one of the great letter pages in comics, if only for the fantastic recipes that show up. No, there are no capes in Southern Bastards, it’s just one of the best comics on the stands.

Thors #1 (Marvel Comics – $3.99) More Jason Aaron, as he writes Thors #1, a comic where thousands of people with the power of Thor act as a police force for Doctor Doom and it’s got art by the fantastic Chris Sprouse and if I need to sell you on this book any further comic books may not be the right entertainment medium for you. I’m just saying.

Prez #1 (of 12) (DC Comics – $2.99) You may or may not remember Prez from one issue of The Sandman, or maybe (and it’s a big maybe) you remember Prez from his four issue series from the ’70s, created by Joe Simon and Jerry Grandenetti, or maybe you remember Prez from a one-shot Ed Brubaker wrote in the mid-’90s. Anyway, you probably don’t know much about Prez at all, and that’s fine. All you need to know is that Prez #1 presents a new version of DC’s First Teen President. Writer Mark Russell and artist Ben Caldwell have updated the basic premise of Prez, turning the lead into Beth Ross, and having her become the first President elected via twitter. This is another one of DC’s fun books in their relaunch and I want DC to keep doing more books like this. Caldwell’s art is a nice change from the house style DC was using before Convergence, and this is another really good thing that should be applauded. My only concern about Prez is that any political and social commentary will be about as subtle as a clown fight, but it’s just a mini-series and DC can see how out there they can go with their series and it could be fun, so I’m willing to check this out.
