Kickstarter Spotlight: ‘Second Nature,’ A Unique Gender Role Reversal Comedy
space
BAADASSSSS!   |

Second Nature

Body-swapping comedies have been around for decades (case in point: Vice Versa, The Change-Up, Dream a Little Dream, etc.), but filmmaker Michael Cross, a graduate of the prestigious USC School of Cinematic Arts – the alma mater of Hollywood heavyweights such as Ron Howard and John Singleton – has an imaginative take on the genre in which instead of the lead characters swapping bodies, gender roles are reversed. He would like to turn this idea into a feature film, and he needs your help to make it happen!

Cross, a longtime director and editor of short films and commercials, is preparing to make his feature directorial debut with the comedy Second Nature, and he has opened a Kickstarter campaign to raise the $55,000 he requires to get it made. So far, the campaign has raised over $8,000 with a little over three weeks left to go.

Continue below for more on the movie and to watch the Kickstarter video.

Here’s a synopsis for Second Chance:

Amanda and Bret have differing ideas on how their small town should be run. Upon the sudden death of a local politician, they both jump in the race for mayor – Amanda hoping to protect her frail grandmother, Estelle, by incorporating her dangerously outlying house into town.

Until one night in a heated argument, Bret snatches an antique mirror – belonging to Estelle – from Amanda’s hands. She wishes that men could behave like women for a change. In a flash of light, Amanda and Bret are transported into an alternate reality where gender roles are reversed and women run the show.

Bret wakes up to discover he now owns several cats, is no longer the owner of his company, and gets heckled by women construction workers on his way to Hooters – which is now Peckers Restaurant. Bret’s goal: Get the hell out of this world. Fast.

Amanda learns that Estelle now swears like a sailor, the city manager is her Aunt Ruth – who is helping run her campaign – which is looking much more likely to win. Amanda’s goal: Do everything she can to stay here where she has a better chance of protecting Estelle. But not everything is as she expected; is this the utopian world Amanda wished for?

Cross has so far only signed one actor for the film, the Six Million Dollar Man himself…Lee Majors! Also known for his starring role in the 1980s action series The Fall Guy, Majors has committed to the role of Mayor Gleason. Although he normally plays weathered tough guys, Majors has stretched his comedy muscles with great success in recent years on Robot Chicken and Raising Hope. He’s also in that wretched skiing flick Out Cold that Comedy Central used to run at least once every week for years. Cross is still casting for the lead roles, but he has also guaranteed that Cooper the Photographer Cat will be making his acting debut in Second Chance.

Perks for donors to the Kickstarter campaign include digital downloads, DVDs, and Blu-rays of the finished film, autographed posters, the chance to be an extra in the film, an invitation to the cast and crew screening, and more. If you pledge $950 or more, you’ll get to be Cooper’s date to the cast and crew screening.

Go to the Kickstarter page to learn more about the campaign and donate. You can also check out Second Nature‘s official website and Facebook page for more information and regular updates on the fundraising and production.
