New Trailer For ‘Harbinger Down,’ A Practical FX Monster Movie
  |  @   |

The overuse of CGI in movie making has gotten so bad that even legends of the art of practical effects are walking away from the game entirely.

We may never see a day where Hollywood stops relying almost entirely on digital effects—because money is worlds more important to the big studios than what movie fans actually want—but there are some who continue to fight for the use of the far superior practical effects in movies, including Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Jr. of studioADI. The Academy Award winning talent behind great PFX movies like Starship Troopers, Tremors, and Alien³ took to Kickstarter a couple of years back to help fund a creature feature titled Harbinger Down, and succeeded.

A new international trailer for the movie, which stars the great Lance Henriksen, has been released online. You can check it out below.

SYNOPSIS:

A group of grad students have booked passage on the fishing trawler Harbinger to study the effects of global warming on a pod of Orcas in the Bering Sea. When the ship’s crew dredges up a recently thawed piece of old Soviet space wreckage, things get downright deadly. It seems that the Russians experimented with tardigrades, tiny resilient animals able to withstand the extremes of space radiation. The creatures survived, but not without mutation.

Now the crew is exposed to aggressively mutating organisms. And after being locked in ice for 3 decades, the creatures aren’t about to give up the warmth of human companionship.

If you missed it, you can also watch a previously released trailer right here.

Harbinger Down also stars Camille Balsamo, Reid Collums, Winston James Francis, Milla Bjorn, Mike Estime, Giovonnie Samuels, Edwin Bravo, and Matt Winston. It is set to be released in limited theaters and video on demand services on August 7th, with a release on Blu-ray and DVD shortly after that on September 1st.
