Each and every week, I, “Day late!” Henchman 21 and “Dollar short!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of June 24, 2015. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

It’s kind of a slower week for new comic book releases, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of titles to get excited about. There’s plenty of Secret Wars tie ins, new DC launches, the next issue of Fight Club 2, and the usual mix of great series from Image, Dark Horse, and others. So, get ready for more comics, more fun and more of The GoD List!

E Is For Extinction #1 (Marvel Comics – $4.99) Do you love Grant Morrison’s New X-Men run? Well, Morrison isn’t coming back to write E Is For Extinction, but you might get the next best thing in frequent Morrison collaborator Chris Burnham, who is writing this series. Burnham is primarily known as an artist, and is currently working with Morrison on Nameless from Image Comics, but he’s written some in the past, most specifically an extra issue of Batman Inc. So, there’s kind of a connection with the original creative team. It also helps that artist Ramon Villalobos has a similar style to Frank Quitely, who provided art for the original story. The story for E Is For Extinction stays close to the original story. Mutant’s are everywhere, the U-Men are back, and Magneto is leading the special class again. Is it going to be as food as Morrison’s run? Let’s be honest, no. You’re not going to step into a great run by one of the best comics writers ever and come off as anything but a pale imitation. However, that doesn’t mean this won’t be good. On the contrary, I think this will be a very good series and a good excuse for me to read New X-Men again.

We Are”¦Robin! #1 (DC Comics – $3.99) Here’s another one of DC’s new series launches, because while I don’t always like Batman, I like interesting takes on the Batman mythos. We”¦Are Robin! #1! (yes, I have to include the exclamation point because EXCITEMENT!) is basically about the Batman street team. An army of teenagers have taken it upon themselves to become Robins in the wake of Batman’s recent disappearance. Bruce Wayne has generally been reluctant to allow anyone without his training become Robin, but hey, there’s no one to stop these kids now. Lee Bermejo becomes the next artist DC gives a writing job to, although he’s already gotten a start with Suiciders from Vertigo, so this isn’t his first gig. Art for the series is by Rob Haynes, Jorge Corona and Khary Randolph, who I’m not really familiar with but.. . As with other titles in the DC relaunch, I’m excited to give this a try, if only to reward DC for trying something different.

Five Ghosts Deluxe Edition Hardcover Volume 1 (Image Comics – $34.99) I’ve got a virtual big stack of issues of Five Ghosts waiting to be read, so I’m giving this as a tentative recommendation, but I’ve heard lots of good things about Five Ghosts so I don’t think I’m steering you wrong. Five Ghosts Deluxe Edition Hardcover Volume 1 collects the first 12 issues of the series by writer Frank Barbiere and Chris Mooneyham. Five Ghosts is basically a modern pulp adventure series about Fabian Gray, treasure hunter. Fabian is possessed by the titular five ghosts who grant him abilities that help him on his adventures. I’m looking forward to finally reading the series because it’s been recommended to me by smart people and because I love a good adventure story and I’ve been entertained by other works from Barbiere enough to have faith in his skills. I can understand if 35 bucks is a bit steep on a series you haven’t read before but maybe track down the first issue and check that out to see if you want to read more. And if you are a fan of Five Ghosts already, you’re sure to want the story in a nice oversized hardcover to put on your shelf.

Fight Club 2 #2 (Dark Horse Comics – $3.99) Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk takes his literary universe — which was adapted into a motion picture starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton — comics with this sequel series. The comic takes place ten years after the events of the 1996 novel with Tyler Durden now with a wife and kid leading a “normal” life thanks to his medication, but of course, that won’t last. Be sure to check out the series, which features covers by master artists David Mack and Francesco Francavilla, and read our full review of issue #2 as well.
