Honest Trailer: ‘Magic Mike’
  |  @   |

With the sequel opening yesterday, Screen Junkies made an obvious choice this week with an Honest Trailer of the Magic Mike, directed by Oscar winner, Steven “Soda Burger.” It was inevitable that women would want to see Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey and other model-esque actors strut their stuff on the “dance floor.” What’s interesting is that it’s actually a really good movie with plenty of eye candy for all, an interesting story loosely based on Tatum’s pre-acting career. Narrator Jon Bailey spends much of the trailer discussing the uneasiness men (including himself) have watching this film for a variety of complicated reasons.

Watch the Honest Trailer below.

The running joke early on is the movie’s dual nature, and it’s half IN YOUR FACE STRIPPER MADNESS, and half melodrama about dreams and futures. “He’s a hot guy with all the right moves… who struggles to overcome social stigmas.” “The kid with a rocking body… who also has a drug problem.” Having watched it one time back in 2012 with my wife, it’s funny – ALL you remember are the stripper segments, and you vaguely remember there being some… plot. In fact, Bailey sums it up best, “If you love strippers but wish you can see all the mundane parts of their daily lives.”

Eventually, the trailer becomes a running joke about men watching and questioning their sexuality, which has its merits. I mean c’mon, Channing Tatum, yeah. There are obvious comparisons to it being a Showgirls/Boogie Nights spin-off and a pimp out to Magic Mike XXL which does look like a less intelligent and totally more fun movie. STARRING… all the various male body parts you’d hope to see in a male stripper movie, the alternate title here, an appropriate “21 Hump Street.” Although I speak for everyone when I say we saw enough of Jonah Hill in Wolf of Wall Street.

Screen Junkies have over four million subscribers on YouTube and release new Honest Trailers every Tuesday afternoon. Magic Mike XXL is in theaters everywhere.
