The Fantastic Four reboot was also part of 20th Century Fox’s Comic-Con panel on Saturday evening.

Director Josh Trank, writer and producer Simon Kinberg, and stars Miles Teller (Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic), Kate Mara (Sue Storm aka the Invisible Woman), Jamie Bell (Ben Grimm aka the Thing), Michael B. Jordan (Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch), and Toby Kebbell (Victor Von Doom aka Doctor Doom) were all on hand to discuss the movie.

Trank loved the Fantastic Four as a kid, but could never collect the comics because he could not afford it, so he watched it on video.

After Trank made Chronicle, he wanted to do the same film but not in a found footage style. Says you will be able to see a more tragic side to the first year of the comic that Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created.

Kinberg shared his passion, but says that he felt a little burned out. However, as soon as he spoke to Trank, who pitched a more emotional and character-driven film, he was hooked.

When approaching Reed Richards, he said he did it as a real person, who has so much history and so much material. Teller said Kinberg gave him Quantum Physics for Dummies. Said he wanted to be in a superhero film, and then Spider-Man came up but he didn’t get the part. Then Fantastic Four came up.

Mara said she wanted to be in a superhero film as well, and was drawn into the family aspect of it. Did not know much about the comic, but loved Trank’s grounded and raw take on the story. When it came to approaching Sue, Mara said the goal was to make these heroes as relatable as possible, and the challenge was to get audience to know the characters before they got their powers.

Jordan’s favorite part of the film was living the childhood dream. He said it was an amazing experience, especially since he has already worked with Teller and Trank in the past.

Bell says Ben is an every kid who has only one friend, the genius Reed Richards. Adds that Grimm is a bit directionless, especially since his character is exiting high school. So when receiving his powers, he does what he does best, protect his friends. Bell says that Grimm is the muscle and heart of the film.

Kebbell proclaims that Doom is the best villain of the comic books. Driven by ego, he wants to destroy Richards. The actor believes that to make a good villain, you have to find the twists in life and that he has to be relatable.

Trank says that the film is very much a prequel about the characters before they receive their powers, then goes into the action when they receive them.

The Fox panel ended with the ultimate superhero selfie, including cast members from five different comic book movies and the great Stan Lee:
