Geek Peek: First ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Images Arrive
  |  @   |

After a rousing panel at the San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, 20th Century Fox has released the first set of X-Men: Apocalypse images. The gallery features our first look at Oscar Isaac (who looks unrecognizable) at the titular villain (who looks more like Ivan Ooze), as well as the debut of Alexandra Shipp as Ororo Munroe aka Storm, and Olivia Munn as Betsy Baddrock aka Pyslocke. We also get a look at Magneto’s new armor, as well as the students of the Xavier’s school surrounding their teacher in a familiar place.

EW was the first to debut the brand new images from the film.

While the characters’ suits were all monotone and lacking substance in the past, it looks like we may be getting some color in the new film, ones that match their comic book counterparts. Magneto’s suit has gone under yet another evolution, this time having more designs and patterns than we have seen in previous films. But it’s Apocalypse who looks nothing like the comic books or animated series iterations we have seen in the past. For one thing, he has a deeper purple, with the armor looking more ancient than technological. Though he still has the signature “A” on his torso, the cables that connect his arms to his waist are clearly gone. Isaac looks unrecognizable, almost as if it wasn’t him underneath all that makeup.

Apocalypse marks the end of the First Class franchise, and will act as a bridge to a brand new one. During the SDCC panel, Singer said that the film would take place 10 years after the events of Days of Future Past, with humans becoming more accepting of mutants and their powers. However, as revealed in the trailer, there are some who have formed a cult believing in the higher power that is Apocalypse. The title villain promises to change the world in his image, and uses the powers of persuasion to recruit Storm, Psylocke, Angel, and Magneto to his team to help him accomplish his evil goals.

Meanwhile, Professor Charles Xavier and his students must team up with Mystique and Quicksilver to stop Apocalypse and his Horsemen from succeeding, though things don’t go as planned.

Directed by Bryan Singer, using a script written by Simon Kinberg (who is also a producer on the film), X-Men: Apocalypse stars Even Peters, Lucas Till, Lana Condor, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Sophie Turner, Oscar Isaac, Olivia Munn, Ben Hardy, Alexandra Shipp, and Tye Sheridan. Fox will release the film into theaters on May 27, 2016.
