Sons of the Devil #3 is the third chapter in this unique mystery/thriller from Image Comics. Actually, they don’t really have anything to do with it, all the goodness comes from the minds of the creators!

Writer Brian Buccellato does a fantastic job with this comic. I’ll be one hundred percent honest. I’m not a horror guy. And when I say that, I mean Scooby-Doo is pretty much my limit on scary things. So why did I pick up this comic? Because I really like Buccellato’s work on his other projects. I first became aware of him on his work on The Flash, and I was overjoyed when he made the move to Gotham City writing Detective Comics. So, when I heard that he was doing the creator owned thing, I thought I’d give it a try, even though I knew in the back of my head I would drop it after the first issue. Boy, was I wrong. This story got me hooked with the first issue, and has held me with every issue so far. It’s the storytelling that really grabbed me more than anything (although the art is fantastic!). Buccellato tells two ongoing stories in each issue. One set in present day, one set in 1989. I have my guesses on how these stories will intersect, and it’s going to be fun to find out. This issue of Sons of the Devil in particular, features some great writing.

Toni Infante is quickly becoming one of my favorite artists. This guy knows how to tell a story. He packs an incredible amount of emotion and action into a single panel. The book would not be half as good without his art. There’s several pages in this issue that flow SO nicely. There’s some great scenes of characters in a group therapy session just sitting around talking, and Infante makes these potentially “normal” scenes into edge-of-your-seat reading. When it comes to action, he really pulls that off, too. Incredibly entertaining art on this series.

This book is flat out great! Everything about it is fantastic. Writing, art, dialogue, you name it. There’s nothing about this comic that you won’t enjoy. Pick it up!! On a side note, I really think this book deserves a better home. I’m seeing it getting lost in the PILES of books that Image is putting out right now, and that’s a shame. I think it belongs at a different company that would give it the attention that it deserves. Make sure after you read this book that you spread the word, so more people can find out about this great book!
