Brie Larson In Talks For ‘Kong: Skull Island’; Russell Crowe Possible
  |  @   |

The United States of Tara star Brie Larson has entered into negotiations to play the female lead in the King Kong origins movie, Kong: Skull Island.

Larson would join Thor, The Avengers, and Crimson Peak star Tom Hiddleston on the cast. The cast also once included recent Academy Award nominee Michael Keaton and recent Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons, but both of them had to step away from the movie due to scheduling conflict. One actor who is said to be a possible replacement for one of the departed stars is Russell Crowe, but whether or not he’ll be interested in the role won’t be known until the next draft of the movie is turned in and he can read it.

In addition to The United States of Tara, Larson is also known for roles in Short Term 12, 21 Jump Street, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, The Spectacular Now, Don Jon, and The Gambler. She can currently be seen in the hit Amy Schumer comedy directed by Judd Apatow, Trainwreck.

Kong: Skull Island is set to be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who was announced as the director along with the casting of Hiddleston almost a year ago now. Vogt-Roberts previously directed 2013’s The Kings of Summer, as well as episodes of the series Single Dads, Funny or Die Presents, Death Valley, Mash Up, and You’re the Worst.

The script for the King Kong origins movie is written by the most recent Godzilla screenwriter Max Borenstein, as well as John Gatins, who previously worked on the screenplays for Coach Carter, Real Steel, Need For Speed, and Flight, which he was nominated for a Best Original Screenplay Oscar for.

The movie has been scheduled for a March 10, 2017 release, and the plan is to begin production either later this year or in early 2016.
