‘Vacation’ Writers Confirmed For ‘Spider-Man’; Promise Wittier Webslinger
  |  @   |

Vacation and Horrible Bossses scribes John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein were among Sony’s top choices to direct their new Spider-Man film. Although the Jon Watts (Cop Car) got the job, the two were then tapped to write the screenplay. Now the pair has confirmed that they are on board to script the Spider-Man reboot, and promises that their version of the webslinger will be wittier and funnier than previous cinematic incarnations.

Find out what they had to say about the tone and the humor of the upcoming film here below.

While on the Vacation press tour, the two confirmed the news in an interview with NPR,

Daley: We can finally acknowledge that.

Goldstein: We’ve been saying no comment for the last week.

Daley: This is the first time that we can say that we are writing it.

Goldstein: We’re thrilled.

Sounds like they’re not upset by not getting the directing job. Previous reports confirmed that whomever got to direct the film would have not written it. On the subject of writing, Daley talked a little bit about the humor of Spider-Man,

He’s a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he’s an outcast and a geek through humor. It is sort of the safety net for geeks like us, so I think we can totally relate to where he’s coming from. As well as the superpowers, which we also have.

If there is one thing that The Amazing Spider-Man franchise got right, it was Spider-Man’s ability to be witty yet heroic. However, that Peter Parker seemed all to confident, and nothing like the geeky insecure kid we’ve read in the comics. Daley though seems to understand the character, and hopefully with his and Goldstein’s comedy background, they can bring us the Peter Parker/Spider-Man we’ve all be waiting for.

Though star Tom Holland will make his big Marvel Cinematic Universe debut first appearing as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016, we will get to see him in his solo film (rumored to be titled either Spider-Man: The New Avenger or The Spectacular Spider-Man) on July 28, 2017.
