Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

The marketing campaign for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is long from over. But with Comic-Con done, it’s back to digital and print. In the past few days, Empire has been slowly releasing new images from the film from the cover of a magazine to a prolific photos. Today, the latest batch reveals a behind-the-scenes look at the production process.

New details about Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and the Justice League are also being revealed. Check out the story and read some quotes about Batman v Superman below.

At first Ben Affleck wasn’t convinced that he was the right person to play an older Batman. But Zack Snyder‘s idea of giving the audience something they have never seen before, was just the thing to get Affleck to sign on to the project,

“Zack pitched me his concept for this older, more broken, kind of f**ked up Batman. It was something we haven’t seen. We have seen that Batman is willing to cross the line to protect people. That vigilantism has been a part of his character all along, and we are tapping into that mentality when faced by something as potentially as deadly as Superman.”

As the trailer revealed, Batman has been around for a very long time. Snyder confirms that this Batman will be around 45 or 46, and has been Gotham’s protector for almost 20 years, which would leave a lot of room to speculate what has been going on before he took it upon himself to take down Superman (Henry Cavill), after the events of Man of Steel.

“All the history is there. Was there a Robin at one time? Possibly. We want to assume that Batman has reached this point in his life and career as a superhero, and Superman represents a sort of philosophical change. He is a paradigm shift for Batman: “˜I’ve been fighting criminals all my life, trying to find justice, and now I am confronted with a concept that is transcendent to me.’ In the face of Superman, a man robbing a bank doesn’t matter. He’s having a crisis of conscience. “˜Am I really just a vigilante who stalks the alleys of Gotham?’ It is rich stuff that he deals with. Ben does an amazing job.”

There may be a few who think it is still too soon to bring back Batman to the big screen, especially since Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy ended in 2012. However, Synder assures us that Batman v Superman won’t be just a Batman movie, and that the film will be about the conflict between the two DC heroes,

“If it was a Batman movie it would be a much more difficult proposition because of how good Chris’ movies are,” adds Snyder. “We live in gratitude to those movies. Chris set a tone for the DC Universe, and separated us from Marvel in a great way. We are the legacy of those movies.”

Though Suicide Squad takes place before the events of Batman v Superman, the latter lays out the groundwork for the former, as well as connect to future DC films. And as the Suicide Squad trailer hints, a task force of villains are being assembled “to do some good.” We’ve also seen Batman make an appearance in the same trailer, leading us to believe that the film will explain some of the origins of the Dark Knight’s rogue gallery,

“What we are doing is ground up all the way. It is one giant story,” Snyder explains. “The first thing we had was the Justice League concept. The other movies, in a way, have to support that. That is our Wonder Woman, our Aquaman. They have their own creative concepts that supports them, but they do serve Justice League in the coming together of those heroes. I want all the other directors of the other films to be able to stretch their legs and do what they want, but at the same time there is a big interconnected universe. I have given everyone amazing access to our story, to me, and what we are doing. All the films have like-minded conceptual jumping on points.”

Written by Chris Terrio, based on a story by David Goyer, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice also stars Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Jason Momoa, Holly Hunter, and Scoot McNairy. It opens in theaters on March 26th, 2016.

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.
