Ghostbusters: Get Real #2 is quite possibly the most Ghostbustery comic that I’ve ever read in my life, and I loved every single panel of it! WHO ELSE but the creative team that IDW Publishing put together could pull this off? Nobody, that’s who.
Writer Erik Burnham has been carrying the Ghostbusters torch for quite awhile now, and honestly, I hope he never puts it down. I think with this mini-series, he’ll have nailed it as being “THE” Ghostbusters writer. I wouldn’t want anyone else writing this series, that’s for sure. In this issue, the comic book Ghostbusters run some tests on the cartoon Ghostbusters and find out how the cartoon Ghostbusters got to their universe. They get down to business analyzing and trying to find out WHY they’re here and how they can get them back. Finally, after a very entertaining issue, a surprise decision is made that will rock both universes to their core!…or, at least give us another couple great issues.
As with Burnham, artist Dan Schoening is THE Ghostbusters artist. I honestly don’t remember when I discovered his work, but it’s been a long time. He’s become THE go-to artist for Ghostbusters and most recently his work has been featured on a related board game by Cryptozoic. As for this issue in particular, it could easily be renamed “Ghostbusters: Easter Eggs.” He does his usual fantastic job with the story, but you’re going to have to read this about 5 times to catch all the stuff that Schoening’s hidden in this issue. Everything from ghosts that were featured in the cartoon series to…well, I’ll leave that for you to find. Needless to say, the art is gorgeous and flawless.
As usual with IDW’s Ghostbusters titles, I can’t recommend this enough. It’s got everything you’d want in a Ghostbusters comic and a heck of a lot more. If you’re just a casual fan, you’ll enjoy it, but if you’re a die-hard “Ghosthead,” your mind will be blown!
