The new Disney Channel phenomenon, Descendants, aired Friday night to become the #1 cable movie of 2015. In fact, preliminary viewer tallies put it at 6.6 million viewers that night alone.
On the heels of this, Disney has released a teaser of a new Descendants animated short series, debuting this September, with… you guessed it… the 4 evil children as the stars. It’s called Descendants: Wicked World. Come on. It’s Disney. They are very good at capitalizing on success.
Check out the success tweet and watch the animated short teaser below.
Descendants stars Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart, Sofia Carson, Mitchell Hope, Keegan Connor Tracy, Dan Payne, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Maz Jobrani, Kathy Najimy, and Kristin Chenoweth as Maleficent. It tells the tale of 4 children of evil, who get a chance to leave their dismal island, and go to school with all the good children of kings, queens, good fairies, etc. The kids are on a mission from Maleficent to steal Fairy Godmother’s magic wand, and free the evil parents. But along the way, they are affected by all the kindness shown to them, first by Belle and Beast’s son Ben, and then slowly by the others.
With its catchy songs, sharp choreography, and plenty of heartstring-pulling scenes, it is no wonder so many tuned in. The rewatches are going to saturate the success even more.
My kids, having watched it with me Friday, already asked 2 things:
1) Is there going to be a Descendants 2?
2) Can we DVR the animated short series?
The answers: 1) I think so, and 2) Yes, definitely.
8 million views. #2 on iTunes albums chart and #1 on soundtrack in one day! #1 on worldwide trend for 8 hours. ðŸŽðŸŽðŸŽ #Descendants2?
