Last week on The Strain, Gus (Miguel Gomez) and the rebel vamps make a move on Palmer (Jonathan Hyde), but it does not turn out so well for them. Palmer manages to shock and impress Coco (Lizzie Brocheré) at the same time. Bodyguard Bolivar (Jack Kesy) certainly didn’t help. Silly girl, still believes he is good. We find out that Setrakian (David Bradley) makes a worm potion that does not turn him into a vamp, but keeps him alive and strong. Nora (Mia Maestro) manages to get that out of him, but promises not to tell. Eph (Corey Stoll) has his hands full with bratty Zach, who really wants his mommy. Don’t worry Zach, Mommy’ll find you. Eph tries yelling and scaring him, which never works. One win – they manage to infect their male human guinea pig vamp, and plan to set him free to infect more vamps. Staten Island is vampire free.

The Strain 2.4 “The Silver Angel” review: An unexpected start leads into some new characters. “Angel” used to act in vampire wrestling movies. Gus comes to his restaurant and the pretty Aanya looks happy to see him. Poor Gus is so alone though. He visits his vampire mommy, and recognizes old Angel from the black and white movies. He just doesn’t understand why Angel is so cranky. I can’t wait to see how Angel fits into the vampire fighting.

A 1966 flashback reveals Palmer and Eichorst (Richard Sammel) meeting, and how Setrakian loses Palmer to the dark side in a nunnery. I enjoyed Setrakian killing vamps in the tunnels. But what happened to the boy?

Eph, Nora, and Vasiliy Fet (Kevin Durand) set their “Patient Zero” vampire free, but he is acting strangely. Fet flat-leaves them to go “Boom Boom” in the subway. Yes. He is still my favorite character. That’s why I’m so worried about what happens to him next in this martial law city they live in. Nora keeps bringing up rights, but seriously, protection first, Nora!

Meanwhile… it’s working!! They find dead vamps with pustules of globbedy-gook on their faces, and vamps start killing themselves at The Master’s hive mind behest. Eph laughs in glee and makes us feel like, “Yes!!” right along with him. There’s still an entire city at the mercy of vampires, but yes!!!

Dutch (Rita Gedmintas) and Setrakian track down Fitzwilliam in Staten Island, to get him on the team.

Eph tries to bond with Zach by taking him to the batting cages, but the memories of his happy mom wreck him even more. Kelly (Natalie Brown) and her vamp children sniff up the helmets there, some time later. Closer and closer they come.

Palmer sets up all the financial bigwigs, and then lets Bolivar and the other vamps have a smorgasbord. It is a vicious, exciting scene, and it is televised. Palmer’s plan is coming out quite nicely – for him.

Great episode. It is one of those ones that make you wish next week was already here.

The Strain airs Sunday nights at 10pm Et on FX.

The Strain – Next On: The Silver Angel

Eph and Nora finally see their lethal virus in action. Fet takes the security of Red Hook into his own hands while Dutch and Setrakian set off for Staten Island to question Fitzwilliam, Palmer’s former body guard.
