‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Is Coming Soon To A Theater Near You!

I don’t know whether to be excited or frightened, but there is a new Dungeons & Dragons movie coming to the silver screen in the near future. I mean, after all, each of the previous films have been lackluster to say the least. Other than that Wrath Of The Dragon God one, which was only kind of myeh.
Now the big deal here is budget, because it looks like Warner Bros. and Hasbro have decided to take this one a bit more seriously than the last ones. There is an entire army of fans out there that are more than willing to shell out some hard-earned cash to see the movie they (we) have all been dreaming about.
But not only is this D&D movie going to be a big budget film but it’s also going to be set in the Forgotten Realms, the most popular and longest active setting for the world’s most popular role-playing game. The script is already written and ready to go, having been penned by David Leslie Johnson (The Conjuring 2 and Wrath of the Titans). Additionally, Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis (Hasbro), Courtney Solomon and Allan Zeman (Sweetpea Entertainment), and Roy Lee (The LEGO Movie and How to Train Your Dragon) are currently listed as producers. I found this most interesting based on the former legal issues between Hasbro and Sweetpea, looks like they came to some agreements because I am told that Wizards Of The Coast is back in possession of all rights to the franchise.
Now, all facts aside, the real question is what the storyline will be. I have interviewed R.A. Salvatore several times over the years (you can read the articles here and here) and posed the question of seeing fan favorite Drizzt Do’Urden in a movie adaptation. He wasn’t too hopeful back then but perhaps the time has come? He’s certainly correct in that a bad movie with his characters would impact not just future films but his books as well. However, I’m not going to lie to you, I hope beyond anything else to see a wonderful adaptation of The Icewind Dale trilogy. I might even give up my first born (sorry, Vivienne). Of course, it could be a more classic theme such as The Temple Of Elemental Evil, which has seen some rebooting over the years. Or even the more recent Neverwinter Nights, that would be cool. Right? And will we see Elminster? Those are just a couple of the multitude of awesome characters that I would love to see in a live action film.
Until then it’s a great time to catch up on any of the novels or comics you might have missed in the past twenty-seven years or so. And in case I didn’t make it obvious, I’m pretty much sitting here going “SQUEEEEE” at the top of my lungs in anticipation. I’m also throwing up some prayers to the powers that be to make this as badass as possible. I really don’t think I could stand the heartbreak of another crappy D&D movie. As always, we will just have to wait and see. But trust that we will keep you informed as details become available!
