‘The Hobbit’ Trilogy Extended Edition Hits Theaters This Fall
  |  @   |

Extended editions of films normally are seen in the DVD and Blu-ray release, and very rarely get a theatrical release. But fans of Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit trilogy should be excited to know that the longer cut of all three films will be hitting the big screen this fall.

More on this story after the jump.

Far Away Entertainment via TheOneRing.net says that Fathom Events and Warner Bros. are partnering to present the extended editions of all three Hobbit movies over a period of three nights. It’s not clear if the films will be shown on three consecutive nights, as according to TheOneRing.net The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is billed for October 13th. They note that this will be the first time that the extended versions of Peter Jackson’s epic trilogy have been released into theaters. The logistics of this event is still unclear, but I’m sure they will have it all figured out as we get closer to the start of the event. So far the extended versions of An Expected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug have been released; The Battle of the Five Armies will be available later this fall.

Also, it’s not known if this event extends to theater chains other than AMC Theaters. But according to the description provided night showing starts Monday, October 5th, 2015 at 7:30pm local. Tickets are regular admission price $10.50 /$8.50.

One of the flaws of the entire Hobbit trilogy is that its long runtime, so watching extended versions of it in theaters would only be more time-consuming and frustrating to those who can’t sit for extended periods of time. But I can’t see it being that much of a problem to those who are big fans of the film, who will most likely go to the event regardless of how long the film is.
