The Avengers is one of the biggest money-making films of all time, and it actually managed to meet all expectations. It is the benchmark for what comic movies strive to be. So it was only a matter of time before the folks at Machinima covered the climactic Avengers battle in their Real Fake History mockumentaries. When Loki opened a portal allowing the alien Chitauri to fly in to Manhattan, it took “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” to fight them off. This also left the city that never sleeps in ruins. But hey, at least they were able to bring the fight up in every subsequent MCU film.
We get an interview from some random guy at the scene; Joey Martorana, a Yankees fan heading to the stadium when the pesky demigod-led alien invasion took place. While he is mostly annoying and gives a horribly stereotypical New York accent, he does nail the punchline. After describing how Hulk punches the Chitauri ship into Grand Central Station, he casually says, “But that’s when I knew the game would be cancelled.”
We also find out that Hulk was unfortunately responsible for over 30 human casualties while leaping through Manhattan office buildings. This makes me interested to see if they cover the Metropolis battle from Man of Steel which looked like it killed millions. We could also get an Avengers: Age of Ultron RFH to investigate how much damage was caused when the green Banner-monster fought Tony Stark in Hulk-Buster gear. We are left with the sad image of regular non-superhuman New Yorkers left to clean up the mess, leaving some to wonder, where were the Avengers to help?
Machinima has over 12.5 million subscribers on YouTube and releases a new Real Fake History every Tuesday morning.
Machinima’s Real Fake History synopsis:
The Avengers: Battle of New York City
Super-powered heroes fight for Earth during an alien invasion, but the true stories of loss and heroism happened to regular folks on the ground and in the office buildings Hulk destroyed.
