I have to say… this episode of SYTYCD was worthy of an all-star show. The choreography, execution, and emotion were one delight after the other. Last week we lost Burim and Moises, and the teams are a bit girl-heavy at the moment. Judges Nigel Lythgoe, Jason Derulo, and Paula Abdul received the opportunity once again to save one dancer from Travis Wall‘s Team Stage, and one dancer from Stephen “tWitch” Boss‘s Team Street. Audience members also saved two dancers via live Twitter voting.
Before I continue with the SYTYCD commentary, Spoiler alert! The 2 dancers eliminated are announced at the end of this! Watch all the highlight videos, and the check out the incredible image gallery below.
Choreographers: Nick Florez, RJ Durell Dancers: Top 16 Style: Hip-Hop Song: “Love Is Free” by Robyn La Bagatelle Magique feat. Maluca
Best SYTYCD group dance of the season. Magnificent, tight, exciting, sharp, striking… Just sooo good!
Choreographer: Ray Leeper Dancers: Jaja, Hailee Style: Jazz Song: “Endangered Species” by Dianne Reeves
Jaja is my girl! They keep pitching and she keeps catching. This tomboy oozed sexuality, and they both were so excellent.
Choreographer: Dave Scott Dancers: Alexia, Neptune Style: Hip-Hop Song: “Flex (Ooh Ooh Ooh)” by Rich Homie Quan
This was a show. Fantastic! There was a padded wall as a prop, and boy! They used it well. So fun! I cannot believe their performance. Alexia was perfect. Neptune did well as I knew he would.
Choreographer: Miriam & Leonardo Dancers: JJ, Leonardo Style: Argentine Tango Song: “Duo de Amor” by Astor Piazzolla
This routine was incredibly sexy. They danced like no one else was in the room. She’s a street dancer! Unfortunately, her original partner, Derek, got hurt and had to take the week off. Fortunately, for her, Leonardo stepped in and brought her up that much higher. It looked like a professional show.
Choreographer: Sean Cheesman Dancers: Jim, Ariana Style: Contemporary Song: “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” by Lorde
Chills. They expressed emotion so raw and beautiful – they were incredible.
Choreographer: Al Blackstone Dancers: Virgil, Gaby Style: Broadway Song: “Where or When” by Sammy Davis Jr
In the words of Paula Abdul, “It’s unbelievable.” This was perfection. Gaby was way taller than Virgil, but it didn’t matter. They crushed this! Virgil really did remind us all of a young Sammy Davis Jr. Both he and Gaby did these remarkable splits then slid up to a standing position that looked effortless. I’m very redundant about how great all the pieces were, but each dance for this episode just got better and better. This is why i watch SYTYCD.
Choreographer: Sean Cheesman Dancers: Asaf, Kate Style: Jazz Song: “Braveheart” by Neon Jungle
Asaf did a much better job this week. He was there for Kate with every connection. It didn’t hurt that he took his shirt off to reveal his 37-pack abs. I know his time on the show is limited. this was the first dance that did not “wow” me this episode. Kate is a fabulous dancer and I hope this does not hurt her chances.
Choreographer: Chris Scott Dancers: Marissa, Yorelis Style: Hip-Hop Song: “Let Go” by Kezwik feat. Mimi Page
Yorelis is a doll. Marissa was good, but my eyes gept looking at Yorelis shine. This was not my favorite of the night, but it was a night of perfection. This routine was very very good.
These two showed such control and strength. Megz is angling to be my 2nd favorite on the show. She’s incredibly versatile. And while Edson has not stood out to me as much as the others, he was utterly beautiful here. Wow.
And now enjoy the SYTYCD teams doing what they do best.
Choreographer: Travis Wall Dancers: Team Stage Song: “Beautiful Friends” by Helen Money
Choreographer: Luam Dancers: Team Street Song: “Commas” by Future
Results? JJ, Marissa, Kate, Derek (automatically), Asaf, and Ariana were in the bottom six. America saved Derek and JJ. The judges saved Ariana and Kate. We had to say goodbye to Asaf and Marissa. I’m okay with that.
