Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Wilkinson, More In Talks For ‘Skull Island’

Following the news that Brie Larson (Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Short Term 12), and Russell Crowe were in talks to appear in Skull Island, Legendary’s reimagining of the story of the home island of King Kong, comes word that the film may add a couple of big names to the cast. According to a new report, the studio is eying Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers, Pulp Fiction), Tom Wilkinson (Batman Begins, Michael Clayton), and John C. Reilly (Wreck-It Ralph, Guardians of the Galaxy) to the cast. They’d be joining Tom Hiddleston and Straight Outta Compton star Corey Hawkins.

Check out the full story below.

According to a report from Deadline, Jackson is in talks to play a role previously filled by J.K. Simmons, with Reilly acting as Michael Keaton’s replacement. The site adds that Wilkinson has also been offered a lead role in Skull Island. However, all of the actors mentioned are in talks, and nothing has been finalized as of yet. The report didn’t mention the status of talks with Crowe.

Skull Island will “fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes, as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island,” in a story that “honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline,” according to Legendary Pictures. Given the title of the film, we should expect that a majority of it takes place on King Kong’s home island, though expect to see civilization at some point during the film.

Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings Of Summer), using a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein (Godzilla, Godzilla 2), production for Skull Island is expected to start late this year or early 2016. The film will be released by Universal Pictures on March 10, 2017, with IMAX 3D a big part of the release plan.
