‘Jem and The Holograms’ Trailer #2: “Showtime Synergy”

Well, the first trailer for Jem and the Holograms failed to impress; in fact it got a wave of international negative reaction. The complete opposite of what Universal was looking for in its modern-day reimagining of the ’80s cartoon of the same name. The film will center on a young girl nicknamed Jem (Aubery Peeples) whose amateur music video was uploaded on YouTube and viewed over a million times, turning her and her band (which also happens to be her sisters) into an internet sensation. Having signed on to a major record labor the group goes on tour, but a greedy studio head wants to take Jem on a solo career, which would rip the family apart.
It’s the same old sing-song story about family sticking together kind of film we have seen in the past. But would a pet robot named Synergy who displays holograms of family memories to remind our lead character about the importance of family get you interested in the film? Well if it does, then you might want to check out what director Jon M. Chu had in store for Synergy below.
Okay, so Synergy won’t be an extraordinarily sophisticated holographic computer designed to be the ultimate audio/visual entertainment synthesizer. But as the trailer will reveal, it will be a constant reminder to Jem that above all, family is the most important thing. You even get to hear Jem say the show’s famous catchphrase “Showtime Synergy.” For those that don’t know, whenever Jem used the catchphrase, or some variation of it, Synergy would generate holographic images that are extremely lifelike and synched to accompanying sound-effects.
Of course there is no telling if this Synergy will do the exact same thing, but at least we know that the film version will take the form of a robot on wheels as opposed to an earring.
Jem And The Holograms also stars Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau, Hayley Kiyoko, Ryan Guzman, Molly Ringwald, and Juliette Lewis. The film is set for an October 23, 2015 release. I’ve also included a video showing examples of Jem using the catchphrase “Showtime Synergy.”
As a small-town girl catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar, she and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden. In Universal Pictures’ Jem and the Holograms, four aspiring musicians will take the world by storm when they see that the key to creating your own destiny lies in finding your own voice.
Directed by Jon M. Chu (Step Up series, G.I. Joe: Retaliation), the musical adventure stars Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau, Hayley Kiyoko, Ryan Guzman, Molly Ringwald and Juliette Lewis. Jem and the Holograms, based on the iconic Hasbro animated TV series, is written by Ryan Landels and produced by Chu, Jason Blum for Blumhouse Productions, Scooter Braun for SB Projects, Bennett Schneir, and Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis of Hasbro Studios.
