SYTYCD: Top 14 Perform + Elimination, Top 10 Reveal!
  |  @   |

Lots of juicy stuff on SYTYCD tonight! The Top 14 dancers leapt, twirled, and popped and locked their hearts out, but at the end of the day, people have to get sent home. America has spoken, and after we make a few little comments on the performances, your Top 10 will be presented. Host Cat Deeley looked lovely as usual (and I want that dress), and judges Nigel Lythgoe, Paula Abdul, and Jason Derulo had the enviable job of enjoying and critiquing the routines.

The SYTYCD Top 10 is revealed below, as well as the gorgeous image gallery from last night’s show. Do not continue if you are not ready to know.

Choreographers: Sonya Tayeh
Dancers: Yorelis, Jim
Style: Contemporary
Song: “Asht” by Nebulo

Oh my goodness, this was sinewy strength, with powerful strikes to the beat. Jim is always flawless in dance, and Yorelis matched him stride for stride. Dancers are always lucky when they draw Sonya Tayeh, but she, in turn, was really lucky to score these two.

Choreographers: Misha Gabriel
Dancers: Edson, Jaja
Style: Hip-Hop
Song: “She Came To Give It To You” by Usher feat. Nicki Minaj

This was a very interesting hip-hop. It mixed a bit of disco and latin in there, and this Usher song lent itself naturally to that. Although they did fine, this was not my favorite from either of them. They didn’t make me forget. I was very aware that they were dancing out of their comfort. This was a fun song with fun choreography, but i didn’t feel like they were having that much fun (there were spots of it though).

Choreographers: Tyce Diorio
Dancers: Hailee, Virgil
Style: Contemporary
Song: “Cellophane” by Sia

I’ve really missed Tyce Diorio on SYTYCD. He is a fantastic choreographer. They danced this extremely well with a spotlight at the end, on the intense drop to the knees, and then Virgil dragging Hailey with his legs, as he walked backwards.

Choreographers: Tracy & Dominic
Dancers: Alexia, Ariana
Style: Burlesque Jazz
Song: “Circus Fish” by Vermillion Lips

This dance was quite sexy, as expected. I’m not sure I liked it though. The choreography was good. It allowed them to accentuate moves, that were extra accentuated with those outfits.

Choreographers: Dave Scott
Dancers: Derek, Megz
Style: Hip-Hop
Song: “Worth It” by Fifth Harmony feat. Kid Ink

Oh my god. I LOVED THIS! This is what SYTYCD is all about! I think Derek was good (he was), but I could not keep my eyes off Megz! It was not just her moves, which were killer and tight, but her personality shone. I believed this routine. I was all in and sad when it ended. The Dave Scott footwork was clever. My favorite.

Choreographers: Stacey Tookey
Dancers: Neptune, Gaby
Style: Contemporary
Song: “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” by Ledisi (Selma Soundtrack)

Just gorgeous, so emotional. How can you not be with a song such as this, and they were. The lifts were smooth. It flowed wistfully, and Neptune really surprised me with this one.

Choreographers: Brian Friedman
Dancers: JJ, Kate
Style: Jazz
Song: “A Different Beat” by Little Mix

This was okay – not my favorite. Again, I felt sexy was replacing the dancing a little bit. But they did the steps well.

Enjoy the team dances!

Choreographers: Sonya Tayeh
Dancers: Team Stage
Song: “Lift Me” by The Bengsons

Choreographers: Pharside & Phoenix
Dancers: Team Street
Song: “Dragula” by Rob Zombie

Choreographers: Brian Friedman
Dancers: Top 14
Song: “100% Pure Love” by Crystal Waters

And your SYTYCD top 10 are… Team Street dancers Neptune, Jaja, Megz, Yorelis, Virgil, and JJ. Your Team Stage dancers are Hailee, Jim, Gaby, Derek, and Edson. Get to know them a little better in their presentation videos after the image gallery.

Top 10

Edson started dancing as a cheerleader and slowly made his way into dance. While starting dance at a much older age than most, Edson is proud to be one of the Top 10.

Dancing brings a whole different dimension to life and storytelling. It’s another way of speaking.

SYTYCD is the reason Derek started dancing. He told his parents that he wanted to be like Travis Wall and all the other technical dancers that he saw. The rest is history!

Jaja’s secret weapon is her body control. She believes this is her biggest strength because she is a female dancing in a male dominated style.

JJ grew up watching dancers on the TV and she knew at a young age that she wanted to dance.

Megz is excited and pumped to show people what she can do this season. She’s been dancing for 23 years and she can dance in multiple different styles.

Gaby expresses her gratitude for being on the show and shares how she started dancing and what it means to her.

Hailee started dancing at age four. She knew from an early age that she wanted to dance for a living.

Jim started dancing in Classical Ballet and went pro at 18. He explains why he decided to audition for SYTYCD and what keeps him motivated when it gets tough.

Neptune fell in love with freestyle dancing because he was free to do whatever he wanted to do. There were no restrictions. Winning or losing, SYTYCD has been a blessing for him.
