HBO Considering ‘Deadwood’ Movie
  |  @   |

There’s many shows out there that were canceled way too soon and continued to develop a passionate fanbase long after the network gave up on them (*cough*Firefly*cough*). Even the mighty HBO has been guilty of this from time to time, such as with Rome and the western Deadwood. Though to be fair, apart from a few titles such as The Sopranos, more mature premium channel TV shows like that weren’t nearly as big back then as they are now. If Game of Thrones came out back in 2004, who knows, maybe it would have only lasted a couple of seasons. The very idea is enough to make you nauseous.

But it looks like one of these shows could see new life. HBO already brought Entourage—which had a healthy eight-season run as a show—back for its own feature film, and now they’re considering giving Deadwood a movie as well. Pondering, really, in a quiet, elaborately decorated room. Outstanding curtains. Whilst sipping a cup of tea. OK so that last part may not be entirely true, but they are thinking about it.

This all started when one of the many stars of the show, Garret Dillahunt said the following on the Twitter:

He wasn’t done there, though. He followed it up with a plea to HBO:

After Dillahunt tweeted these things, HBO did confirm that there were “preliminary talks” for a possible movie, though it’s still too early to say what the chances are that the movie will actually happen.

If a movie does happen, it sounds like it will be made for HBO and not released in theaters like Entourage was. Which, if you ask me, is the way to go. As they’ve said when asked about a potential Game of Thrones movie, it’s not fair to the faithful fans to have to go out and buy a movie ticket to see a continuation of a show they previously and faithfully watched on HBO. Plus, they can get away with way more on HBO than they can in even an R-rated movie, and that’s always lots of fun too.

Now, going back to Rome…let’s get some preliminary talks about a continuation of that amazing series going as well.
