Universal and Legendary’s monster movie Kong: Skull Island isn’t scheduled to start shooting until October, but the script continues to be perfected, and the cast continues to grow. Their latest addition will now be Toby Kebbell (Fantastic Four, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes). He will be joining Tom Hiddelston and Brie Larson, as they will play as a team of explorers who venture into the mysterious, creature-laden isle.
More on the story below.
THR was the first to report on the story, although they could not provide any details as to what Kebbel’s role in the film is.
Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) also stars in the Jordan Vogt-Roberts directed project. Samuel L. Jackson, John C. Reilly, and Tom Wilkinson are in talks for other roles as well. According to a previous report, Jackson is in talks to play a role previously filled by J.K. Simmons, with Reilly acting as Michael Keaton’s replacement. No word yet on Wilkinson’s role in the film.
Jurassic World co-writer Derek Connelly was recently tapped to write the current draft, which has gone through other writers like Max Borenstein (Godzilla), John Gatins (Flight), and Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler). Jordan Vogt-Roberts will direct, while Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Mary Parent.
As aforementioned, the film isn’t a retelling of the iconic King Kong but rather a reimagining, with a team of explorers who brave the dangerous jungles, monsters, and indigenous people of Skull Island. It is still unknown as to why they are on the island.
Kebbell is coming off the critically panned Fantastic Four, and based on previous reports of a tumultousproduction, has come out unscathed, so far that is. He will appear in another Legendary film, an adaptation of the popular Warcraft. He will also star in the remake of Ben-Hur, and J.A. Bayona’s A Monster Calls.
Kong: Skull Island opens in theaters on March 10th, 2017. Warcraft will open in theaters on June 10th, 2016.
