Is Kylo Ren A Sith Lord In ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’?
  |  @   |

With just under four months before the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the mystery behind everything that surrounds the film is slowly beginning to unravel, but somehow throughout the marketing campaign, we still don’t know that much about it. It’s a great thing to see that Disney and Lucasfilm have been able to keep much of the mystery box closed, which only adds to the intrigue of the highly anticipated film. Rest assured, more details will be revealed as we get closer to the film’s release, especially with a full-length trailer dropping this Fall.

For those who cannot wait that long, and need their new Star Wars news fix, today’s report should get you going. Director J.J. Abrams has revealed some interesting tidbits about Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) as well as Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis). More on this below.

Recently it was revealed that Kylo’s last name was not a surname, but actually a title bestowed upon members of a group called Knights of Ren, and that the character himself is a Vader fanatic. But the lack of Darth with his name has led many to question whether or not he is a Sith Lord. As J.J. Abrams would tell Empire, Kylo is indeed not a Sith.

“Kylo Ren is not a Sith. He works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.”

We should have seen that one coming considering that Kylo didn’t have the title of Darth in his name, but given that not all of the full character names have been revealed as of yet, it just added to the fun debate. Now that the director has been confirmed that Kylo is not a Sith, what does that mean for “Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.” Does this mean he is a Sith Lord?

Abrams then revealed the inspiration behind the creation of The First Order, which is a bit of a historical nod as well as a nod to the Star Wars canon,

“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again? What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”

Much of the film’s villains are influenced by Nazis, Darth Vader, stormtroopers, etc. But the idea of taking the surviving members of the Empire and those who pledged allegiance to them and rallying them together to create The First Order is an exciting and innovative take on the Star Wars canon.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens also stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, and returning alum Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, and Kenny Baker. Disney has scheduled the film for a December 18, 2015 theatrical release.
