The reboot of the Planet of the Apes film franchise has been built around Caesar (Andy Serkis), the chimp who would help lead his fellow primates in a revolution against their human captors. Since the events of the first film, the Simian flu has nearly wiped out all of humanity, with a few remaining survivors building an immunity. However, tensions are still high as the some of the humans blame the apes for the spread of the sickness, and ultimately, an act of double cross from the ape faction combined with human hostility would lead to war against each other.
It wouldn’t be much of a Planet of the Apes without humans in it. James Franco and Jason Clarke played our human heroes in the last two films, and now War of the Planet of the Apes will be getting a brand new human lead.
New reports are confirming that East Los High actor Gabriel Chavarria will join the human faction in Matt Reeves‘ War of the Planet of the Apes. More on this story below.
Deadline says that Chavarria’s role will be similar to that of James Franco’s role in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Whether or not this means he will also be a doctor is unknown, as the site was unable to provide any character details. Chavarria is also one of the two human leads in the film, with the other yet to be announced.
The actor is probably best known for his role as Jacob Aguilar in Hulu’s East Los High. He can also be seen in NBC’s drama Aquarius, and has wrapped shooting Blumhouse’s Low Riders, a thriller which finds him getting caught up in the low rider culture.
War of the Planet of the Apes will open in theaters on July 14, 2017.
