Production On ‘American Gods’ To Start In March
  |  @   |

It appears that action on the American Gods TV series is getting ready to pick up in a big way. Starz gave the show a full series order back in June of this year, and now a report says that production will begin in March of next year.

The series is based on the novel of the same name from renowned author Neil Gaiman, who will also executive produce and write some of the episodes, and Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller and Kings creator Michael Green will act as showrunners.

When Starz ordered the full series, Gaiman said:

“I am thrilled, “Žscared, delighted, nervous and a ball of glorious anticipation. The team that is going to bring the world of “˜American Gods’ to the screen has been assembled like the master criminals in a caper movie: I’m relieved and confident that my baby is in good hands. Now we finally move to the exciting business that fans have been doing for the last dozen years: casting our Shadow, our Wednesday, our Laura.”

It’s the casting that’s the primary focus right now, and with a production start now in sight it’s expected that official cast will start being announced soon.

Lucy Bevan is the one in charge of casting, with previous casting director credits including Maleficent, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Cinderella, and Snow White and the Huntsman, as well as upcoming titles Alice Through the Looking Glass, Tarzan, Beauty and the Beast, and Jungle Book: Origins.

The most important role to cast is of course Shadow Moon. Here’s how the casting call for that part reads:

Lucy Bevan is looking to cast the lead role of Shadow, male, early to mid 30s, American, black/mixed race/North African in appearance. An ex-con with a quiet intellect and a lithe, powerful frame. This series contains adult content.

Back in June the #CastingShadow hashtag was started to see who the faithful fans of the book thought should play the character. Their top choices include Game of Thrones and Aquaman star Jason Momoa, True Blood and Magic Mike star Joe Manganiello, and Austenland and The 100 star Ricky Whittle.
