It’s being reported that 20th Century Fox is developing a movie based on the hit video game franchise Mega Man, also known as Rockman.
The game follows Rock, a lab assistant of Dr. Light who is turned into a battle robot android and tasked will defending the world from the evil Dr. Wily and his many different violent robotic creations and the Robot Masters.
You can read more about the movie and see what a live-action Mega Man might look like below.
The news comes from The Tracking Board, who reports that the movie is being developed by Fox and Chernin Entertainment. Chernin’s previous films include Rise of the Planet of the Apes, as well as its two sequels Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War of the Planet of the Apes coming in 2017, Oblivion, The Heat, The Drop, St. Vincent, Exodus: Gods and Kings, Spy, and Tim Burton’s upcoming title Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.
Mega Man is being overseen by David Ready and Michael Finfer for Chernin, with The Chernin Group Peter Chernin producing, and Mike Ireland and Ryan Horrigan for 20th Century Fox.
The project is still very early in development, so no director, writer, or stars are currently attached to and working on the movie.
No official movie has ever been made based on Mega Man before, but some fan films have been made, including a feature-length one. You can get a small idea what a live-action take on the game might look like in the videos below. With tens of millions of dollars and a large team of cast and crew to work with on the production, it should be fun to see what a big budget feature looks like should everything work out and the movie does eventually get made. I’ve also included a video of one of the games—my personal favorite, Mega Man II—for your viewing enjoyment.
