Rosario Dawson To Appear In ‘Luke Cage’; ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Star Theo Rossi Joins Too
  |  @   |

She may not have appeared in the entire season of Daredevil, but Rosario Dawson did play a vital role in Netflix’s Marvel series. Dawson is also set to reprise her role in AKA Jessica Jones for a couple of episodes, and will do so again in Luke Cage. Marvel’s third series has yet to go into production, but has been making the casting rounds as of late, adding Alfre Woodard (State Of Affairs, Annabelle) as a villain.

And now it looks like the series will be making another addition. According to a new report Sons of Anarchy star Theo Rossi will also be joining the cast, which is being led by series star Mike Colter, who plays the title character. More on this story below.

In Daredevil, Dawson plays Claire Temple, a nurse of Hell’s Kitchen. She will also reprise her role in AKA Jessica Jones, and with her reappearing once more in Luke Cage, Claire is looking more like the Nick Fury or Agent Coulson of Netflix’s Marvel Universe. It’s not exactly clear how many episodes she will appear in or how she will be used in the series. But Deadline says that Claire was a romantic interest of Luke Cage in the comics, though we can’t be sure if the series will stay true to the comics.

As for Rossi, the site adds that he will be playing “Sonny” role, who is described as a “relentless and menacing, smooth and manipulative, street smart and controlling.” Much like Woodward’s role being listed as one thing, but playing someone else, Deadline say that Rossi would be playing Luke Cage’s enemy Shades aka Alvarez, a well known criminal.

Cheo Hodari Coker serves as executive producer and showrunner on Luke Cage.

No official logline has been released, but many suspect that the series won’t deviate too far from the comic book origins where Luke Cage is accused of a crime he did not commit, and is recruited to be a part of an experiment that is said to be a variation of the Super Soldier program that gave Steve Rogers his powers. However the experiment goes wrong, when an angry guard tries to sabotage it in hopes of killing of maiming Cage. Though he failed, Cage gains superhuman strength and durability, and breaks himself out of prison. With a new lease on life, Cage becomes a hero for hire, helping anyone who could meet his price.

Still no word on when the series could debut, although Marvel has stated they would like to release a new series on Netflix every six months. Luke Cage would be the third in a four series planned release, with Iron Fist being the last. Daredevil is currently in production for its second season, with AKA Jessica Jones getting ready for its own debut later this year. The four heroes will eventually team up for a Defenders series.
