Misty Knight

Yesterday it was confirmed that Rosario Dawson would be reprising her Claire Temple role for a third time in Luke Cage. In the same report it was confirmed that Sons of Anarchy star Theo Rossi would be joining the cast as a villain. And now it looks like the Luke Cage casting process is progressing rather quickly, as they have added yet another star to their series.

A new report says that rising star Simone Missick will be joining the cast of Netflix’s Marvel series as a hero. More on this story below.

The report comes from Deadline, who says that Missick will play Misty Knight. IDMB lists her as playing in all 13 episodes, though that remains to be seen.

As for those who may not know much about who Misty Knight is, she is a patrolwoman who graduated at the top of her class at the police academy. Her career speaks for itself, having saved many lives. But having tried to disposed of a terrorist bomb, Knight lost her arm, which was eventually replaced using cybernetic technology built by Stark Industries. However, Misty’s injury removed her from active patrol duty, and she resigned rather than accept a desk job. This is where her character will play a vital role. Because it was Knight who would go on to meet Iron Fist – who has yet to be cast. Eventually these two would become romantically involved. She would then join Luke Cage and Iron Fist working as Heroes For Hire.

Her abilities include martial arts and hand-to-hand combat, as well as detective skills. Her bionic arm grants her superhuman strength, and gives her hand a vice-like grip, but only in that arm. She cannot lift objects heavier than her back, shoulders, and legs can physically support.

As for Missick, well she isn’t an established name like her co-stars, but she has appeared in shows like Showtime’s Ray Donavan, and in 2008’s The Road To Sundance.

Mike Colter stars as the title character Luke Cage, a wrongly accused man who is given superhuman strength and durability thanks to an experimental procedure. Cage breaks out of prison only to become a hero for hire, performing heroic acts only if the person can meet his price.

We will first see Luke Cage will make an appearance in a few episodes of AKA Jessica Jones, which will obviously then lead to his own series. Cheo Hodari Coker serves as executive producer and showrunner. Alfre Woodard also stars as the villain Black Mariah.
