So spoilers…and I think the review is a bit NSFW.

Last week on Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, we met Johnny Rock’s (Denis Leary) mommy, and boy can she give “Mommy Dearest” a run for her money. The band goes back to the 70s for his mom’s wedding – cue Gigi and Ava (Liz Gillies and Elaine Hendricks) in authentic garb, breathlessly singing 70s disco. Mom (guest star Kelly Bishop) never got over getting tossed for the role of Mary Poppins in favor of “Supercalifragilisticjuliefriggingandrews.” She is all about herself, but the episode did highlight how awesome Johnny’s dad is at saxophone, at caring about his kid, and providing insight. Rehab and Bam Bam (John Ales and Robert Kelly) end the show with a wtf? moment: Rehab brings back a 170-year old woman while on Quaaludes (he’s a method musician), and Bam Bam gives a hand job to a guy for delicious ribs.

SDRR 1.8 “Hard Out Here For A Pimp” review: There are two things going on in this episode. Bam Bam and Rehab, sick of getting the monetary shaft in the band, decide to create their own genre of music. And from there, the comedy ensues. These two are so silly, they are the ultimate sidekicks. Watch them brainstorm naming the band, sounding out the title to one of their songs, and the video Ira (Josh Pais) shows of their first gig. You’ll be as surprised as I was at the audience reaction. Is “beastcore” the new thing?

Johnny tries some reverse psychology on Gigi (as per Ira’s suggestion), bad mouthing a cute musician, so she would take interest. Then he goes and convinces the guy to date her (he doesn’t need much convincing, to no one’s surprise). It seems to work. Which leads us to the funniest jam session ever between Flash (John Corbett) and Johnny. They write song titles to each other:

Possible song titles

1. Flash: “My Name Is Johnny Rock And I Look Like Willem Dafoe If He’s A Goddamn Crack Head.” I can see that. No offense Denis Leary.

2. Johnny: Your Hair is Getting Thinner and Your Stomach’s Getting Fatter.”

The best is the “Cum” song. That’s right.

I did get a bit creeped out at Gigi talking about blowjobs in front of Johnny, and Johnny pimping out Gigi, but I think that was the point.

The result? Does Gigi stick it out with mall guy, or go back to Flash? You’ll have to watch to find out!

Love the Game of Thrones descriptions, guys!

Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll airs Thursday nights at 10pm ET on FX.
