BAADASSSSS!   |

Bruce Campbell in Army of Darkness

Load up your boomstick and oil up that chainsaw. This Halloween is going to be one for the ages as far as fans of the Evil Dead movies are concerned.

The 10-episode series Ash Vs. Evil Dead is set to premiere on Starz on Halloween night – watch the amazing and bloody Comic-Con trailer here – and four days before the show’s big premiere marks the release of Scream Factory’s long-awaited release of Army of Darkness on Blu-ray.

Scream, the horror and sci-fi subsidiary of Shout! Factory, has been working on the Army Blu for quite some time. Today they have unveiled the final list of special features.

You can check out the full line-up of supplements and the snazzy new cover art created for this release here below.

Previously available in the U.S. in a single disc edition with only the truncated theatrical cut of the film and a few minor extra features, Army of Darkness returns to Blu-ray in a set that spreads four separate cuts (theatrical, international, television, and the fabled director’s cut) and a host of extras new and vintage across three discs. With the exception of the TV edit that has played on cable sporadically since the 1990s, the different cuts of Army have been remastered in high-definition from the best available film elements.

Behold! I present to you the complete list of bonus features:

DISC ONE
Theatrical Version (81 min.) 1080p High-Definition Widescreen (1.78:1), DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 & 2.0

NEW Still Gallery Of Props And Rare Photos from the collection of super fan Dennis Carter Jr.
NEW Storyboards for Deleted or Alternate Scenes
Vintage The Men Behind The Army Featurette (19 min.)

Well now.

This set is certainly poised to best any previous DVD and Blu-ray of Army of Darkness in terms of both a/v quality and supplements. I have an Australian Region B set which I bought from eBay last year that has several different cuts of the film and some scattered bonus features, but it appears that Scream Factory has once again outclassed its competition in the U.S. and abroad. That feature-length documentary looks to be the jewel of the new bonus features (Lionsgate’s Evil Dead II 25th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray also had a retrospective doc that was longer than the movie it was covering).

Scream Factory’s 3-disc Army of Darkness Blu-ray set will be available for sale on October 27, 2015. You can pre-order it here.
