Ronda Rousey Set To Bounce Into ‘Road House’ Remake
  |  @   |

Ronda Rousey, the famous mixed martial arts fighter, is quickly making a household name of herself. The news today is she has been chosen to take the place of the late Patrick Swayze in a reboot the cult hit Road House from the late ’80s.

MGM is now in talks with writers to get a script put together and tentatively wants to start production in 2016. Rousey, who’s excited to show off her acting prowess, seems a natural fit for the Swayze role as a the zen-like philosopher/bouncer hired to clean up the raunchy Double Deuce bar. Her skills as an accomplished fighter will no doubt come in handy during the filming of the movie.

Variety reports that Rousey and MGM want to be very respectful of Swayze’s legacy in regards to the film, and Rousey herself sought the blessing of Swayze’s widow, Lisa Niemi, about the role. Niemi apparently supports the idea. Swayze passed away at the age of 57 back in 2009 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Rousey has been busy in the film world as of late with appearances in The Expendables 3, Furious 7, and the Entourage movie. She also will be starring in a biopic of her own story My Fight/Your Fight, and is currently lined up for both Warner Brothers’ The Athena Project and director Peter Berg’s Mile 22, which is scheduled to begin filming in February of next year.

The Road House role would be a great showcase of her ability to carry a film project and might help fan the rumor fires of her becoming Marvel’s Captain Marvel which she has hinted at wanting to play.

Inside the Octagon — where she has established herself as a dominant force who has barely been challenged by anyone — or out of the Octagon, Ronda Rousey is making sure her name isn’t going away anytime soon.
