Tom Cruise and Doug Liman

Something must have clicked between Tom Cruise and Doug Liman because the two are set to reunite for a sci-fi film called Luna Park. The film will mark the third time that the pair have worked together since 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow.

No word yet on the status of that proposed Edge of Tomorrow 2, but if it worked the first time, then it should work just as well the second time around. More on the project below.

Variety says that everything is still in the early stages of the process and “could go one way or the other depending on how the latest draft of the script comes out.” The project has been in development since 2011, and even went into limbo for some time before news of today’s possible reunion hit the web.

Paramount will distribute Luna Park.

Chris Evans and Andrew Garfield were circling leading roles before Cruise ended up being the frontrunner for the film, which is said to revolve around a group of renegade employees who venture to the moon to steal an energy source.

It’s still unclear how much of a role Skydance Productions and Paramount will play during the production of the film, but given the two’s relationship, and the success of their collaboration on the last few Mission: Impossible films and Jack Reacher, it’s likely that the two studios are going to be behind the project.

One thing is for sure, the film won’t be shooting for a while, which could mean that if Edge of Tomorrow does get the green light, it will most likely be pushed back to make up for Mission: Impossible 6which starts shooting next summer – and Jack Reacher 2, which is expected to start shooting very soon.

As you may have noticed, Cruise likes to work with directors on a frequent basis. He has already worked with Christopher McQuarrie on Jack Reacher and the fifth installment of the Mission: Impossible film franchise, and Liman twice before. Looking at it from a certain perspective, it is quite possible that Liman could be next in line to direct the untitled Mission: Impossible 6.

Cruise is just coming off Paramount and Skydance’s most successful hit Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, which has grossed $512 million dollars worldwide. His second collaboration with Liman is titled Mena, and it drops in theaters next January.
