‘Captain America: Civil War’: Elizabeth Olsen Says Scarlet Witch Is The “Wild Card”
  |  @   |

Recent Captain America: Civil War promotional images revealed Iron Man and Captain America’s respective teams. Footage shown at D23 Expo also gave us a look at who is siding with who. However, the teams shown in the footage and the promotional images each tell a very different story.

One key member is missing from Captain America’s squad. Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Wanda aka Scarlet Witch in the film, says that her character doesn’t really side with any one faction, and calls the Avenger a “wild card.” More on this story below.

In an interview with MTV, Olsen talks about how Scarlet Witch has changed from the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron to Captain America: Civil War, especially after what she went through in her first Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance.

“She’s OK. She’s doing alright. She’s confused, she’s conflicted. She’s found some people she thinks she connects with, but she’s doing alright. They released images of Team Cap and Team Iron Man. She wasn’t there. She’s always the wild card. I like being the wild card.”

As previously mentioned, Scarlet Witch was clearly seen in the D23 Expo footage, running alongside Captain America, Winter Solider, Hawkeye, and Falcon. However, the promotional images that Jeremy Renner released a few weeks back showed that Sharon Carter was on Captain America’s team, possibly replacing Scarlet Witch. This is what Olsen could be referring to when she said that Scarlet Witch was a “wild card.” But somewhere along the way or maybe even before the film, she joins Cap on missions.

Concept art and promotional images tell one story, but it is the final cut that says another. We can pretty much confirm that Falcon and Winter Soldier will most likely side with Cap, while War Machine joins Iron Man’s faction. But it’s clear that Scarlet Witch will eventually have to choose a side, as the plot of the film has superpowered beings joining factions.

Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters on May 6, 2016.

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

The movie stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Frank Grillo, Tom Holland, with William Hurt and Daniel Brühl. Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” is directed by Anthony & Joe Russo and produced by Kevin Feige. Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Nate Moore and Stan Lee serve as executive producers and the screenplay is by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.
