Kickstarter Spotlight: ‘Spectrographs and Soliloquies’
  |  @   |

Kickstarter is a great place to help launch projects and maybe even the careers of aspiring filmmakers. USC Film School Graduate Cody Lawrence is just one of those people, who is using the crowdfunding site to help kickstart his own career in the filmmaking business, and you can help fund his film by donating to his Kickstarting campaign for his independent short film Spectrographs and Soliloquies.

Lawrence describes his film as a light sci-fier an astronomer who ignores the ones he loves because he is obsessed with an anomaly approaching Earth. As his life begins to fall apart he sets off to repair the damages to the relationships he holds dear. As with all Kickstarter campaigns, there are fun incentives if you help fund the project. Check out more on the film, info on some of the rewards, and the Kickstarter video below.

Spectrographs and Soliloquies started its official Kickstarter campaign a few days ago, and has a goal of $18,000, with a current stretch goal of $20,000. Sounds about reasonable for a film short. 40 backers have kicked in $3,908 dollars, and there are 23 days left to help fund the project. As aforementioned with every Kickstarter campaign comes very exciting incentives if you help fun it. For instance, the incentives for this campaign include a teaser poster, signed concept art, and the cornerstone reward, a Kickstarter-exclusive art print by Marko Manev. These art pieces are a collaboration with Hero Complex Gallery (a pop culture art gallery much like Gallery 1988, Mondo, and Bottleneck Gallery). You can check these pieces of art in the gallery below.

Spectrographs and Soliloquies is a sci-fi drama short film about an astronomer who ignores the ones he loves because he is obsessed with an anomaly approaching Earth. The story begins as his life starts falling apart and it follows his emotional journey as he overcomes these challenges. According to Lawrence, the film is intended to be at the intersection of Spielberg/Abrams and Zemeckis/Sagan/Tyson, with our main inspirations as Close Encounters, Super 8, Contact, and COSMOS.

The film will be co-produced by Will Cherry, Madeline Kushner, and Marlene Rios. Los Angeles Astronomical Society consulted on the film as well. Two-time Daytime Award-winner Mary Iannelli (Independence Day: Resurgence, Carlton Cuse’s Colony) is the lead designer on the film.

Here’s the official logline: A cosmic tale about coming to terms with life and death in the face of extraordinary circumstances.

You can learn more about the short and available pledge rewards at the official Spectrographs and Soliloquies Kickstarter campaign page.
