The 99th Precinct shenanigans are back! Brooklyn Nine-Nine begins its 3rd hilariously hysterical season at the exact moment season 2 ended – with the elevator door opening. The gang was awaiting their new captain. That’s right. Madeline Wunch (guest star Kyra Sedgwick) finally got Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) into her witchy clutches, in the guise of a PR promotion. Gina (Chelsea Peretti) went with him (noooooo!!!!!). Peralta and Diaz (Andy Samberg and Melissa Fumero) finally kissed (yayyyyy!!!!).

Possible spoilers of tonight’s episode – proceed with caution below.

The new captain is… Bill Hader! He plays super serious in a comedic way, which is I guess a requirement for a captain of the 99. After he has a heart attack (come on… that was in all the promos!), he keeps all the detectives on a GPS’d tablet, where they have to complete a task every 55 minutes. That is as super fun as it sounds.

Jake and Amy decide to keep it under wraps, and casual, so when Boyle (Jo Lo Truglio) sniffs around, Jake throws him off the scent.

“I find Amy repulsive and she finds me extremely handsome.” Good one.

I’m looking forward to a sweet buildup with an inevitable crash and burn, that they will recover from in an adorable way.

He gets another sex tape title – watch to find out what it is!

Meanwhile, at PR, Wunch is having so much fun watching “Raymond” suffer, with meaningless leadership over an unproductive team. I was expecting more fight from Gina in his defense, but I guess she can’t. At least she still gets the best lines:

“This man is a Timberlake. Stop treating him like a Fatone.” Love you, Gina!

The end of the episode is yet another shock for the squad.

I may have missed this show most of all. It always delivers a bunch of laughs and I care about this crew. The premiere was as funny as expected. I do want Captain Holt back pronto, but I’ll try to be patient.

The season 3 premiere of Brooklyn Nine-Nine airs tonight at 8:30pm ET on FOX.
