Disney Shifts Release Dates For ‘The Incredibles 2,’ ‘Toy Story 4,’ ‘Cars 3,’ More
  |  @   |

Disney has announced some pretty big scheduling news surrounding the release of their Marvel Studios and Pixar films, as well as their reimagined live-action adaptations. Following the confirmation that Ant-Man and The Wasp will be pushing back Black Panther and Captain Marvel, comes word that The Incredibles 2 and Cars 3 are now officially set for release, and Toy Story 4 is getting pushed back an entire year. The studio has also reserved four dates for their live-action adaptations of their animated films.

Check out the all the release dates and the studio’s competition in the report below.

First up, The Incredibles 2. The highly anticipated sequel will now be released on June 21, 2019. Brad Bird returns to direct the film after having a brief stint directing live-action. Pixar is known to be stickler on researching, developing, and writing the stories for years on end, so the fact that fans will have to wait three years for the movie to be released doesn’t come as a huge surprise. I’d be even less surprised if the date gets changed again, since that also happens a lot within the industry. As to what the sequel could be about, that is unclear; although Samuel L. Jackson has been pretty vocal about being in it, we have yet to hear of such a confirmation. But considering that he is a fan-favorite (despite his short screen time) I’m sure he will have some role in it. The Incredibles 2 will also have some pretty big competition as it opens in the same month that Justice League Part Two opens.

Toy Story 4 will now open on June 15, 2018, almost an entire year after the film’s original release date. We know that Will McCormack and Rashida Jones are working on the script that is confirmed to be a love story that will center on the relationship between Bo Beep and Woody. John Lasseter will return to direct the sequel, with Tom Hanks and Tim Allen also returning to reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz, respectively. Again, the reason for this movie’s delay could be any number of things, but since the franchise has such a rich mythology one would think that the release’s push back is just so that they can iron out the script. While it doesn’t have any direct competition that shares the same release, Toy Story 4 doesn’t have any other films opening on the same release date but will have to contend with a Jurassic World sequel and Godzilla 2 in the same month.

As for Cars 3, it is being moved to Toy Story 4‘s old date. The film, which will also be directed by Lasseter, opens in theaters on June 16, 2017. which is a week before an Untitled DC Film is released, and one week after Fantastic Four 2 and World War Z 2 hits theaters, the former of which may drop considering that it is now tainted. Again, since it is early, and the news was just announced, it is not clear what the sequel could be about.

Here is the confirmation of the newly revised release dates as posted by Disney-Pixar on Twitter:

As for those live-action films, Disney has locked in the following dates but have not confirmed which titles are getting said dates: December 22, 2017, November 2, 2018, March 29, 2019, and November 8, 2019. As far as we know Disney is currently developing live-action films based on their animated hits. What’s Eating Gilbert Grape screenwriter Peter Hedges will pen the script for Pinocchio, Tim Burton is directing the live-action Dumbo, Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek are writing Mulan which will be produced by Chris Bender and J.C. Spink (We’re the Millers), Finding Dory screenwriter Victoria Strouse is scripting Tinkerbell, Winnie the Pooh, Genie from Aladdin, and The Sword In The Stone with Game of Thrones writer/producer Brian Cogman working on its screenplay. There is also a film based on Prince Charming in the works.

So take one big deep breath when reading the following the releases, The Good Dinosaur arrives on November 25, 2015, Finding Dory on June 17, 2016, Cars 3 on June 16, 2017, Coco on November 22, 2017, Toy Story 4 on June 15, 2018, and The Incredibles 2 on June 21, 2019. Now exhale, and take another one as these are the release dates for the confirmed live-action films December 22, 2017, November 2, 2018, March 29, 2019, and November 8, 2019.
