Michael B. Jordan Rumored To Play Boba Fett In ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff
  |  @   |

Josh Trank‘s heavily publicized ousting from one of the first Star Wars spinoffs was a result of his reported work ethic while on the set of Fantastic Four and his feud with its producer Simon Kinberg – who also happens to be a producer of the same spinoff. The fallout was that the film was pushed back indefinitely until Disney and Lucasfilm could find a possible replacement, with the two studios deciding to move ahead with a young Han Solo film, to be directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord, instead.

Rumors are swirling that the delayed spinoff could focused on Boba Fett, and now a new rumor has emerged that Michael B. Jordan could be the one to play the iconic Mandalorian. More on this story below.

The rumor comes from The Wrap’s Jeff Snider, who was on Meet The Movie Press podcast where he dropped the latest Star Wars bomb. While it is far from a confirmation, Snider has his sources, and is a very credible entertainment reporter, so the story does have some validity to it. The reporter even admitted that it was just a hypothetical, and shouldn’t even be considered as anything else. However, it does give us an idea of the kind of talent the studio may be looking at.

It’s still too early to tell what Disney has planned for these spinoffs. Previous reports stated that these standalone films could be “set in a separate movie universe that is not associated with Star Wars: The Force Awakens or upcoming Episodes VIII and IX.” These new films are meant to act as an extension of the Star Wars franchise, and will focus on characters who aren’t Jedi, though when it was first announced that there were going to be spinoffs, rumors of films centered solely on Han Solo and even Yoda started to spread.

Here’s what Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy had to say about the status of the spinoff,

“It’s still one of the stories that we absolutely want to tell,” she says. “There is a lot of innovative technology in and around what it is we’re doing with that story, so for a lot of reasons, we were comfortable postponing that. But we’re definitely still developing it.”

She added that they are just simply trying to get the story to a point, and that they’re “never rushing for anything.”

But Trank’s firing wasn’t the only reason the film has been put on hold. If the film is indeed centered on Boba Fett, then the reason for its delay, at least from what we are hearing, is because Disney and Lucasfilm are having a tough time dialing down the possible violence a Boba Fett film may have.

It remains to be seen if this spinoff will be based on the fan-favorite bounty hunter. Part of the appeal of the character was that we knew so little about him. Boba Fett wasn’t much of a talker to begin with, which only added to the mystery. We got a tiny glimpse of what his childhood was like during Attack of the Clones, but not much else. I think keeping the character cloaked in a shroud of mystery keeps him interesting. But a film just for him was pretty much inevitable. Now it’s just a matter of who will write the script and direct the film. Because we all know that Jordan can act, it’s just a matter of the creative team being able to execute the vision that will respect the character and his fans.

We’ll keep you posted on this story as soon as more information comes in.
