Rebecca Ferguson

It seems that Rebecca Ferguson‘s names keeps popping up on casting shortlists. Casting directors have been keeping an eye on the actress ever since her scene stealing performance in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. In the past few months she was attached to play the female lead in Gambit – which ultimately went to Lea Seydoux (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Spectre) – and decided to take a pass so that she could star alongside Emily Blunt, and possibly Chris Evans and Jared Leto, in Tate Taylor”˜s adaptation of Paula Hawkins”˜ The Girl on the Train. She is also rumored to be in the running for Marvel Studios’ adaptation of Captain Marvel, which is three years away from release.

The number of offers alone shows that Ferguson is in high demand, and now her stock is about to increase, as new reports are coming out that are saying she is wanted for Alien: Paradise Lost and The Snowman. More on these stories below.

First Alien: Paradise Lost. The film was confirmed only a few weeks back while Ridley Scott was on The Martian press tour. Deadline says that “official talks” haven’t even begun yet, but the most recent draft calls for a “very strong with a peach of a major female role.” This isn’t a huge surprise, considering that Fox already had their sights set out on her for a role in Gambit. So while she didn’t get the lead female role in that film, she must have made such an impression on the studio execs for them to offer another role in a different film. As to what her role could be, based on previous statements made by Scott, she could be part of the new explorers who run into David and Shaw, who are on their journey to find out why the explorers want to destroy what they created. Fox to go into production in the latter half of next year.

The site also confirms that she is in talks to star in Tomas Alfredson‘s (Let the Right One In, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) adaptation of Jo Nesbø’s novel The Snowman, starring Michael Fassbender. According to them, the deal isn’t quite done yet, but both sides are very interested in getting everything inked so that they can make their January start date. It’s not clear who she will play, but in the novel, a murdered woman’s scarf tied around a snowman just outside her son’s home. Fassbender will play the lead role of the brilliant but disturbed detective who is assigned to the case.

But it isn’t over just yet. There is also word that she may have a role in Mission: Impossible 6, which would put her in a class all by herself as lead females in that franchise tend to stick around Ethan Hunt for one mission. The film is expected to start shooting next year.

Ferguson is also considering a role in Mike Newell’s Guernsey (aka The Guernsey Literary Society and Potato Peel Pie Society). Apparently she is a fan of the role, but will have to compete with Kate Winslet for it.

  1. Your reporting/reading comprehension is seriously lacking. First, Rebecca stepped away from the “Gambit” role, choosing instead to star in “The Girl on the Train.” It’s not that she “didn’t get” the role, it’s that she chose to step down and took another role instead. Second, she isn’t competing with Kate Winslet for “Guernsey”. That film has been in development for awhile and Kate Winslet was attached years ago, but is no longer involved. Get your facts straight, please.
