Hardcover | Kindle
By Doogie Horner

Release date: October 20, 2015

In this age of the Internet, cats rule. They’re everywhere. They make us squeal with delight, coo at their adorableness, and laugh at all their video hijinks. That’s why a novelty book like Some Very Interesting Cats Perhaps You Weren’t Aware Of fits in very well with today’s audiences.

This new full-color small hardcover book comes from author and illustrator Doogie Horner, whose insanely adorable 100 Ghosts: A Gallery of Harmless Haunts made our 2013 All Hallows Read recommendations. In Some Very Interesting Cats Horner gives us a look at just that — a tiny glimpse at the secret lives of 100 or so very interesting cats (one of nine lives per cat, that is). But unlike famous felines Morris the finicky spokesperson, Socks the Presidential pet, or current internet sensations Grumpy Cat and Lil Bub, the furballs featured in this illustrated collection are very little known. For example, there’s David, the Werecat, who was bitten upon the Scottish moors; the “Declawed” Boots Tidyman — you thought he was defenseless, think again!; and my favorite, Snickers, the Hideous Stray, who comes to your door not for a saucerful of milk, but rather for your souls (he’s swallow your soul!!!).

Horner also takes the cat personalities that we know so well, like that of Snowball, an adventure-seeking climber of curtains and bookcase, and puts a humorous spin on what he imagines is truly going on behind the scenes. It’s all stuff we’ve thought about it, for sure.

Some Very Interesting Cats Perhaps You Weren’t Aware Of is an amusing look at the alternate lives of cats, and is a perfect, quick read for today’s cat lovers.

A completely original and funny new take on cats. Doogie Horner, a writer and illustrator, knows just what it is about cats that so obsesses and delights us””their impenetrable personalities, their self-contained quirkiness, the aura of mystery that makes it seem as if they’re always up to something that they don’t want us to know about. So he imagines their secret lives for us, in a way that takes the most surprising and whimsical turns.

With full-color illustrations and absurdly funny short stories, Some Very Interesting Cats Perhaps You Weren’t Aware Of is a gallery of 100 impossible cat characters. Like the Alien cat, Xort, who reports back to his planet: “Have trained my humans to feed and pet me. They suspect nothing.” Or the Mountain Climber cat, Snowball, who is planning a perilous route up the North Curtain to Mt. Bookcase. Or Mystico, the Magician cat””no one could figure out how he sawed a dog in half. (The answer was simple: He didn’t like dogs.) And Hjalmar, the Viking cat, whose motto is “Pillage. Tuna. Plunder. Nap.”
