Last week on Gotham, Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) found himself a slave once more to Theo (James Frain), who kidnapped his mom. Theo wants him to burn some stuff, namely Wayne Enterprise stuff. Butch, with Selina’s (Camren Bicondova) help, find the Pikes, some gleeful arsonists. When one of the crew dies, the other 2 brothers recruit their slave girl “sister.” During a heist, she burns up one of the Strike Force members. Penguin finds out the history of the Galavans and figures out how he can get an “in.” He sends Butch (Drew Powell) was so crazed about his kidnapped mom, he chopped off Butch’s hand, so he could convince Theo that he would be a loyal addition to his team. Theo gets a visit from a familiar stranger.

Beware of spoilers below.

Gotham 2.6 “By Fire” review: Since the rookie died, Jim (Ben McKenzie) does not want to do things by the book anymore. I don’t blame him. Barnes (Michael Chiklis) is pissed though.

Theo sees right through Butch’s farce and has Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) try to fix his “wiring.” It’s nice that Theo lets his sister have so much fun.

Bruce has dinner with the Galavans, and is obviously smitten with Silver. Theo weaves his magic manipulation on Bruce. He tells Bruce he wants to help him fix his company and be there for him.

Penguin is still out of control. The loss of his mother will be his downfall. He is arming up to rescue his mother.

Selina helps Firefly with a place to stay and money (from a heist at a brothel) to get out of town, but her sadistic brothers grab her first. They probably shouldn’t have done that. They created a monster. What she did to them was expected, and brutal. Jim tracks down Selina, and promises her that Bridgit will be safe. Why, Jim why? You know you’ve failed almost every promise you’ve ever made! The showdown between her and the GCPD ended quite badly for her.

Selina holds Lee hostage til Jim comes home:

“You’re cute. For a doctor.”
“You’re cute. For a gangster.”

OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD! I don’t know if Nygma is going to be The Riddler, The Joker, or nothing, but this is the episode that sends him to the point of no return.

Some thoughts:

– With all the violence and heartbreak of this episode, the part that got me the most is Camren Bicondova’s potrayal of Selina this episode. The “I don’t cares” were just the right shade of untruth, and her hurt (even though she expected it) of Jim’s failure, hurt me. Kudos to that young lady.

– On that note, I really enjoy Lee’s (Morena Baccharin) amusement at being in danger this episode. I don’t know. Maybe they should move or something.

– So now I am unsure whose side Butch is on. I like that he called Tabitha, “Tiger Lady.”

– Poor Nygma and poor Ms Kringle! That was heartbreaking. Such highs and lows for them!.

– The end is really exciting with glimpses of the future Gotham villains, as Firefly is wheeled through.

– Indian Hill

– Donal Logue is funny even when he is kicking a burnt almost corpse.

Good episode, Gotham. You played my emotions like a violin.
