Nicole Kidman In Talks For Mystery Role In ‘Wonder Woman’
  |  @   |

Now before we get ahead of ourselves and jump for joy, Nicole Kidman is only in talks to star in Wonder Woman for an unspecified, but vital role, according to The Wrap. The site believes that the actress may play Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons, and the biological mother to Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). But like most of these comic book cinematic universes, it’s not clear if director Patty Jenkins or anyone over at WB and DC would want to follow the comic book storylines to the letter. More on the story below.

WB isn’t playing around when it comes to their casting like their rivals over at Marvel, and if successful, the addition of Kidman would be a big boost to the film franchise and the DCCU as a whole. With some speculating that Wonder Woman could be their version of Marvel’s Thor, there is a chance that if the actress does play Hippolyta (the wrap lists the character as Hyppolyta) that she could be much more like Odin. Again, that is just speculation, and should not be considered as anything else.

Wonder Woman can be considered one of the first major female superhero films to be released since the shared universe business model made a big splash thanks in part to Marvel Studios and their MCU. Captain Marvel is currently without a star to play the title role or a director, but the film is still years away from being released, so obviously Marvel isn’t in any hurry to be the first to release a solo female superhero film. But they do have Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) writing the script.

That being said, it is rumored that Wonder Woman could take place before the events of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where Batman is watching her save civilian lives during a climatic battle. There are even rumors that the film cold have flashbacks to World War I.

Chris Pine is the only other actor that is cast in the film so far. He’ll play Steve Trevor, the U.S. military intelligence officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps who became stranded on Paradise Island when his plane crash landed on it during World War II. According to the actor, Jenkins will be shooting on film – so if you are a fan of that technical aspect, that is something you should be looking forward to.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Kidman, who is coming off her most recent hit, Paddington, was in a superhero film. In 1995, she starred in Batman Forever, playing Dr. Chase Meridian. Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder are producing Wonder Woman. Pan scribe Jason Fuchs penned the film’s screenplay.

We’ll keep you posted should Kidman sign on or drop out of the running.

Wonder Woman hits theaters June 23, 2017.
