Joker and Red Hood May Give Ben Affleck Problems In Batman Solo Film
  |  @   |

One of the biggest (and most ominous) Easter Eggs to appear in the most recent Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer was the Robin suit that was covered in graffiti, which said “Hahaha Joke’s On You Batman.” Seeing that, some would speculate that the Joker had killed Robin (presumably Jason Todd) before the events of the film, maybe even before Man of Steel. While we cannot set a timeline, this Easter Egg may tell us that the next Batman film (which may or may not be directed by Ben Affleck) could be based on the Red Hood storyline, where Jason Todd is killed by the Joker, only to be brought back to life where he sought out vengeance against Batman for letting the mass-murdering Joker live.

Now there seems to be some weight to this theory as a new rumor has popped up saying that the Red Hood and Joker could make an appearance in the untitled Batman film. More on the story below.

The source of this rumor comes from JoBlo, who has been on a recent wave of breaking some big superhero scoops.

For those who are unfamiliar with who Jason Todd is and how he became the Red Hood, it is all explained in “A Death In The Family” storyline Jim Starlin and Jim Aparo published by DC Comics in 1988. In it, Todd is viciously beaten and killed in an explosion by The Joker. But in the “Under The Hood” storyline, it is revealed that he was resurrected by Talia al Ghul in the Lazarus Pit. Unfortunately, the effects of the pit causes to change Todd’s mental state, and soon he takes up the moniker the Red Hood. He is a one man army against Black Mask and his thugs, as he successfully dismantles his crime empire, while at the same times searches for Joker. The Red Hood would soon find the Joker, and finally takes his revenge out on him that mirrors the way the Joker beat him before the Clown Prince of Crime left him to die. While all of this is happening, Batman is on his own investigation to discover who the Red Hood is. We also learn that Bruce has kept Jason’s Robin costume in its memorial display case in the Batcave – much like the one we saw in the trailer.

If this rumor is true, then we should expect to see Dick Grayson as Nightwing. Grayson was the first Robin and Batman’s protege. While he was dismissed by the Batman, the bond between the two is as strong as when they first started out.

Again, that one Easter Egg is evidence enough to have us believe that the next Batman film will be based on “The Death In The Family” and “Under The Hood” storylines. How they will adapt this story is still unclear. For one thing, we might The Death In The Family storyline used as flashbacks while the film uses the Under The Hood storyline in real time. Or they might just use portions of it like they did in the animated film.

Whatever the case, this would be the first time that we have seen the two story arcs used in a live-action film. Not only that but fans have been clamoring to see Nightwing and a proper Robin in the live-action films, so to see the two in this storyline should be some cause for excitement.

We’ll keep you posted if there is any truth to this rumor or should any new developments arise.
