Lawrence Kasdan is the scribe behind some of Lucasfilms’ greatest films like The Empire Strikes Back, The Return Of The Jedi, and Raiders Of The Lost Ark. He’s also behind films like The Big Chill and Dreamcatcher. So when Disney acquired Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy got the scribe to co-write a script for the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The screenwriter will also be co-writing the untitled Han Solo movie with his son, Jon.

The film which will be directed by The LEGO Movie helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller may be Kasdan’s last Star Wars script. Find out more about this story below.

Though the screenwriter didn’t say he was officially done with writing Star Wars stories, Kasdan did hint that he is nearing the end writing the movies. Here’s what he told Bild (via THR):

“I have now made four Star Wars movies. That’s more than enough.”

To be fair, Kasdan has been writing since the 1980s, and writing four Star Wars films, it’s no surprise that he may feel a little bit exhausted from the experience. But he doesn’t bear any ill-will towards the franchise. The Force Awakens comes out next month, and the Han Solo film comes out in 2018. According to the source, one of the reasons why he is leaving the franchise behind is to spend more time with his family. These films are kind of a big deal, and having to write them to meet certain deadlines would take away precious time from you family, so it makes sense that he step away.

While the two films will most likely be his last, he is writing the Han Solo film with his son, which may be a passing the torch kind of deal. If that is true, he may still be involved in the writing process somehow by acting as a consultant of sorts. After all, the elder Kasdan is more familiar with the Star Wars mythology than anyone else.

Now, let’s take this news with a grain of salt. First and foremost, the news does come from a tabloid source. Second, it has been translated from a German tabloid, so there may be some things lost in translation. Unless we hear from Kasdan himself, let’s not rush to anything.
