Be warned: Spoilers ahead!

It’s sexy beach times for May (Ming-Na Wen) and Andrew (Blaire Underwood) “” six months ago, to be exact “” as they reevaluate their relationship, as well as May’s future with S.H.I.E.L.D. Unfortunately, the ex-lovers’ turned possible ex-ex-lovers aren’t able to maintain their blissful reunion for too long. A few days later, back in Andrew’s office, he opens an old book belonging to Jiaying, filled with Inhuman names, and is covered in the Terrigen Mist, quickly turning into stone (and subsequently a stone-faced killer).

The next few scenes of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode 3.7, “Chaos Theory,” follow Andrew’s interactions with multiple characters, of course set to ominous music, because, you know, he’s Badrew now “” sorry, Lash. Andrew tells Daisy (Chloe Bennet) that not all Inhumans are going to be able to control their powers; he then tells Jemma that she “did the right thing by telling the truth,” and that “secrets can eat you up from the inside.” Oh, the irony. We then see Andrew faithfully working with the metal-bending Inhuman Joe (Juan Pablo Raba) at a S.H.I.E.L.D. training facility, until he turns into Lash and burns a hole through Joe’s heart! Psych! Just a daydream.

May, having found out in the last episode that Andrew is Lash, and now from Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) that S.H.I.E.L.D. is searching for Lash, begins to do a bit of investigating herself. She’s on a mission to find out the truth, and we all know how seriously May takes her missions. Learning from Daisy that Andrew is helping Joe, May immediately takes off for the training facility. Once there, she forces Joe, along with all of the guards, out of the room and tells Andrew that they need to talk alone. The confrontation turns hostile quickly, as Andrew can’t control his anger and shoots May with a stun gun.

Meanwhile, many others in the group aren’t really getting along either. Daisy’s mad at Coulson (Clark Gregg) because he agrees with Rosalind (Constance Zimmer) on how to deal with the Inhumans; Coulson’s mad at Daisy because she can’t understand his side of things and quite frankly, he ain’t got time for her whining because he’s about to meet the president “” that’s right, the president; Daisy is also mad at Rosalind because of how she treats the Inhumans; and Rosalind is basically acting out of fear.

But what would this episode be without more sexual tension between Coulson and Rosalind? Coulson is having a hard time tying his necktie. Why? Because he has a fake hand. Thankfully, Rosalind knows how to tie a tie, and he gladly accepts her offer. What does he do without her every morning? I guess we’ll never know. Daisy interrupts this tender moment to announce that another quintet has docked. Lincoln (Luke Mitchell) and Mack (Henry Simmons) enter the room (they secretly met to discuss Lincoln’s idea of who Lash is) and explain what they know: Lincoln realized that Lash has been using Jiaying’s ledger to find and attack other Inhumans. Mack says that he’s seen Andrew with it “” and now they all know the truth. Lincoln goes on to say that Andrew is still in transition, that he won’t always be able to change, and that at some point, he will change back into Lash for good. And now Coulson can’t meet the president or have Rosalind help him put his coat on.

Back to May and Andrew. Andrew has May chained up in some seedy old warehouse, because that’s what you do when you love someone and they just don’t understand”¦ “I didn’t ask for this,” he explains. “I didn’t want to hurt anyone. I didn’t know what was happening.” Andrew then tells May all about Jiaying’s book and what he’s been doing, but that he needs her help. He was compelled with an intense hunger to be near other Inhumans. When he “lashed out” (yes, he actually says this) the first time he met another Inhuman, he killed the man. He’s been keeping this secret from May to protect her (why is this always the most “logical” choice on every single television show ever?).

May is conflicted. He asks her not to give up on him and they kiss. But Coulson shows up. Rosalind has her team waiting for Coulson’s order while Daisy, Mack and Lincoln are all working with Coulson as well, but finding separate routes to surround Andrew. Andrew says he has a moral responsibility that they’ll all see soon. “I’ve only killed those who deserve it.” Ruining everyone’s plan, Lincoln comes in the room and confronts Andrew, turning off the electric with his abilities. Andrew changes into Lash and says, “I am the cure,” followed by mayhem and destruction. Lash basically walks around beating the crap out of individual people, almost killing them, and then being stopped by the next person he decides to take his anger out on. Rosalind is one of the “almost” victims, as Lash grabs her by the neck, lifts her in the air, and drops her from a third floor balcony; however, Daisy uses a part of her power that she didn’t know existed, slowing Rosalind’s fall, and saving her life. The two women share a moment of understanding and clarity. Finally, Lash is about to kill Lincoln when May gets in between them. She talks him down by talking about their relationship (which allows Lash to become Andrew once more). She says she won’t leave him again. Then she shoots him multiple times, having strategically cornered him next to a containment cell, which he falls into and becomes Lash, right after the door closes in front of him. May and Andrew might not be on good terms for a while, but everyone else seems to have come together due to this highly personal showdown.

In the final scene, Ward (Brett Dalton) “” whom we haven’t seen at all this episode “” is drinking whiskey with Gideon Malick (Powers Boothe) Malick explains to Ward that he needs to think on a grander scale, that revenge will only get him so far. Well, of course Ward has a plan. What is that plan, you ask? Ward is going to “cut off the head of S.H.I.E.L.D., because without Phil Coulson, S.H.I.E.L.D. won’t grow back.” Malick then gets a phone call and it’s Rosalind, who is in a bedroom getting dressed, telling him she’s sorry for missing their meeting, but that they’ll meet soon. Rosalind hangs up the phone and guess who walks up behind her, buttoning his own shirt? Phil Coulson! Oh snap!

S.H.I.E.L.D.ed Observations:

– Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) seems to be on to something in his search for a way back to the alien planet. But more importantly, while fixing and watching the recordings on Simmons’ phone, he discovers that she really does love him. When he asks her about it (because at the time she was dehydrated and tired) she says that she had never been more clear. Well, it would seem that Jemma Simmons is in love with two dudes, and she’s going to be in quite the predicament once they rescue Will, because let’s be honest, it’s only a matter of time before they DO rescue him.

– This show seems to have an issue with underusing characters. Bobbi and Hunter (Nick Blood) only have one scene together in which they talk about not letting revenge turn them into monsters like Ward…and then they’re gone…

– Fitz and Simmons, not knowing what to make of their relationship, watch a sunrise together — the very thing that she and Will could not do.
