Two weeks ago on Once Upon A Time, there was tons of excitement, as Emma (Jennifer Morrison) made Zelena’s (Rebecca Mader) pregnancy speed up so she would go into labor. It’s a girl! The super exciting part for me was David Anders return as Dr. Frankenstein, but I guess Emma stealing Zelena (and not the baby like everyone thought), was exciting too. Turns out Emma wanted to put all the dark magic in Zelena, and then cut her down. Hook, as dastardly as he is, could not participate in that. To return the favor, Zelena showed Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) what Emma really did in Camelot. Hook was dying, so Emma tethered him to Excalibur, making him a dark one. And then there were two. But he hates her for it. The second half was a Merida (Amy Manson) story, where she needed to find a magical helmet before Arthur and Zelena does – one that will make men do her bidding. She finds out Arthur was the one to kill her father, and we get the return of Ruby and Mulan (Meghan Ory and Jamie Chung), her quest buddies.

Spoilers below.

Once Upon A Time 5.10 “Broken Heart” recap/review: Zelena erases Emma’s memories and magically cuffs her. Hook feels reborn. We get to see him born of the dark one muck, where he sees the imaginary Rumplestiltskin, promising revenge.

Emma confesses all her misguided actions to Regina and her parents. All the dreamcatchers are gone. “Captain Dark One” – love Regina!

Hook challenges Rumple to a duel. I don’t know. Mr. Gold is still kind of cowardly, but he steps up.

Emma wants the cuff off, but nobody trusts her, not even Henry.

In Camelot, everyone knows about Dark Hook. Emma and Hook face off. It is there that she shares part of her get-rid-of-darkness plan. The reconcile for all of 3 seconds and then separate. Dont worry. That doesn’t last long.

Hook called Emma a “pretty blonde distraction.” Ouch! She still tries to get through to him. Then he calls her an orphan. Double ouch!

Robin and Regina allow Zelena to see her baby, hoping the love for one’s child will change her to her “best self.” I’m really proud of Regina, even though she does it with every threat she can think of.

Emma and Henry team up for “Operation Cobra Pt 2,” which includes finding the dreamcatchers. Success!

The duel begins! This still doesn’t seem like a fair fight, even though Hook healed Gold to make it more so.

Aw man… Killian is bad. The scene with Merlin was just evil.

There is a definite winner of the duel. But maybe the winner is the loser. We finally see the conclusion to the Camelot storyline.

Good episode. Evil Hook is a hell of a lot of fun. A lot of questions were answered, plus we get the terrifying next level in the Dark One plot. Lots of hearts get crushed this episode, both literally and figuratively.

The winter finale is next week, and the way it is shaping up, it will be a doozy!

Once Upon A Time airs Sunday nights at 8pm ET on ABC.
