Two weeks ago on The Flash, Grodd was back, using his mind to bend people to his will. His goal? To make more Grodds. He mind controls Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) but doesn’t want to hurt her. he remembers how kind she was. They get Earth-2 Wells (Tom Cavanagh) to pretend to be dead Wells, with Cisco’s (Carlos Valdes) help, whom Grodd saw as a father. Earth-2 Wells did have a real answer. There is a Grodd habitat on Earth-2, and they send him there. The other theme is father-son relationships. Barry (Grant Gustin) is having a lot of doubt in himself, so Iris (Candice Patton) calls in his real dad (John Wesley Shipp) for the sage Rocky speech that the first Wells used to do when Barry was doing Flash-y stuff.

Beware! Spoilers for “Legends of Today” below.

The Flash 2.8 “Legends Of Today” recap/review: Time for the 2-night crossover event that leads to Legends of Tomorrow! It’s the introduction to Vandal Savage (Casper Crump), immortal, who has searched for and killed Hawkman and Hawkgirl ( Falk Hentschel and Ciara Renee) for thousands of years.

About to be dead person: “Who taught you that, Houdini?”
Savage: “Actually I taught him.”

He definitely doesn’t care about killing, but that makes perfect sense. Immortality must make life meaningless, or so I would imagine.

Barry keeps trying to get faster and faster, which brings about the little side Wells/Caitlyn/Jay story, about steroids for speedsters.

Patty (Shantel VanSanten) and Barry are still adorbs, especially when Joe comments.

Kendra cooks for Cisco. Cute! Too bad it won’t last long. Savage shows up.

Cisco: “Kendra’s not going anywhere with you Highlander.” Good one! Flash saves the moment, but it’s time to call in Team Arrow.

And yes! Damian Darhk (Neal McDonough) is in the crossover! “You brought arrows to a gunfight.”

The Arrow fight scene is pretty good. Darhk almost kills Oliver (Stephen Amell), but Barry saves him to protect Kendra.

Oliver to Barry about dating Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards): “More bruises from her than from Deathstroke.”

Have I mentioned how much I love crossovers?

Cisco introducing Kendra: “She’s my new beautiful friend who kisses me.” Cisco – I just love you so. I wish I was your new beautiful friend who kisses you.

Felicity to Barry: I wonder what Oliver’s doppelganger will look like… bald, potbelly, agreeable.

Vandal attacks them in Oliver’s penthouse. They think they killed him (rather Speedy). Silly superheroes.

Enter… the new Ra’s al Ghul. Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) and a couple of assassins, for exposition purposes. He tells them all about Vandal Savage. Kendra can’t take it. She runs out and Cisco talks to her. And then a birdman swoops in and takes her. Cisco is like, “What!” But we knew he was coming.

Holy S**t! Patty follows Harrison Wells. I can’t even say what happens, but I hope it’s not real!

Hawkman totally macks on Kendra, giving her the whole 4,000 year lover history in a few sentences. I would be skeptical too. Don’t soulmates speak, I don’t know… more soulmate-y?

Cisco: “Ok, Romeo…”

Oh my god… Barry totally calls out Merlyn for stepping out from the dark shadows to impart some villain knowledge. That’s some funny stuff.

Cisco: “Since when did our lives suddenly become an Indiana Jones movie?”

I guess if Barry quits his day job, he can always be a heart surgeon. Watch the episode. You’ll know why I said that.

Hawkgirl is thusly named, in a bittersweet moment.

Oh my god. There is an Arrow reveal at the end of this episode (will speak of this in tomorrow’s review). I have been waiting for them to come back to this for a long time.

This might have been the best episode of The Flash ever. I think it is the best crossover (until maybe tomorrow night). Everything was up several levels, from the excitement, the participation of all cast, the quips… the quips! Almost everyone had a joke. It was so fantastic. Even the expository parts had me listening hard. I didn’t even care. I didn’t even reveal ALL the super funny dialogue – yes, that’s how funny it was. I was almost tempted to write down the entire script verbatim.

See you tomorrow!

The Flash airs Tuesday nights at 8pm ET on The CW.

The Arrow 4.8 crossover “Legends of Yesterday” airs tomorrow night at 8pm ET on The CW.
