Air Date: Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015, 8:00pm

The second part of the 2-night crossover event aired tonight in the Arrowverse. Arrow, two weeks ago, had Diggle (David Ramsey) and his H.I.V.E, not-dead-just-brainwashed brother fighting, as his brother was part of Damian Darhk’s crew. Thea (Willa Holland) was able to cure her bloodlust temporarily (and accidentally) via Darhk (Neal McDonough). Last night on The Flash, Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) was introduced as the biggest bad of them all – a 4,000-year old immortal with a perpetual murderous focus on Hawkman and Hawkgirl (Falk Hentschel and Ciara Renee). Hawkgirl aka Kendra has to jump off a building to open herself up to her powers. Cisco (Carlos Valdes) is kinda pissed Hawkman is moving in on his girl. Dr. Wells and Caitlyn (Tom Cavanagh and Danielle Panabaker) develop a speed drug, which Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears) has to take to save Dr. Wells life. Oliver (Stephen Amell) realizes he may have a kid. I have been waiting for this since season 2!

Do not proceed any further if you haven’t watched the “Legends of Yesterday” episode yet. Serious spoilers!

Arrow 4.8 “Legends of Yesterday” recap/review: Arrow begins with the oldest flashback to date… but not of Oliver Queen.

“My name is Priestess Chay-ara. 4,000 years ago, my soulmate and I were killed by Vandal Savage, cursed to…”

No. They really did not say that, but that was the running dialogue in my head.

Thea: “Bunch of superheroes in a farmhouse? Feel like I’ve seen that in a movie before.” Hmmm… where? (Hint – Age of Ultron).

Oliver is acting very weird. We know it’s about that kid he saw with his ex. He goes to the mom and sneaks a piece of hair, not believing her denials.

Merlyn arranges a meetup with Savage.

Savage: “Robin of Locksley. He taught me how to use a bow. I taught him how not to feel pain.” This is the cool part about Savage. It also hints that he is not all bad, because wasn’t Robin of Locksley a reluctant hero? And he taught Houdini? Someone who is all bad, wouldn’t help others, one would think.

Savage will kill everyone in the city unless they turn the Hawks over. Okay, so that is pretty bad.

Merlyn, typically, is ready to hand them right over, spouting a father’s love, which holds more significance than ever. Amell did a good job about making us feel those subtle feelings.

And squee! Barry said he time jumped! At this point I couldn’t wait to see the butterflies.

Diggle digs up a Betamax tape from 1975 (the beginning of Legends!). I was almost as excited as Felicity.

Barry did the DNA test, Oliver went to confront the mom, and Felicity found out almost immediately. I think they might have broken up.

Bu then…

Holy crap! Everyone died! And Barry went back in time! It was really crazy. Although I knew the time jump would save them, watching everyone get vaporized was pretty unsettling.

Oliver’s right, Barry. Changing time is less risky than EVERYONE dying.

Cisco (the true hero in whatever city or show he’s in) is the one who gets Kendra to access the powers. After dealing with his insecurities behind quips, he tells her to find the priestess, not the warrior. That’s why he’s the genius. And she was the key to defeating Savage (this time…).

Poor Cisco! Kendra has to break up with him. He better get a girl soon! He is the all around perfect guy, yet I know the is going to be the unlucky in love guy, the entire series.

So they are able to fix the deathly mistakes, but Oliver makes the same one about Felicity and his son, except this time, she does not find out. That is definitely going to bite him in the ass.

Aw! Barry and Oliver hug!

I have a bunch of questions:

– Does Oliver tell Felicity about his son?

– Does he make the same mistake again? Watch and find out.

– What happens to Vandal Savage?

– What does that have to do with Malcolm Merlyn?

– Is Merlyn doing this to actively look for a bloodlust cure?

– How cool was Oliver and William playing with Flash and Captain Cold action figures?

This was a great episode. Of course, being Arrow, it was darker in tone (Um… yeah – everyone died), and thus had less of the funny lines always gifted to The Flash, even though there were Flash cast in it.

Arrow airs Wednesday nights at 8pm ET on The CW. The Flash airs Tuesday nights at 8:00pm ET on The CW. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow airs January, 2016.

The CW’s synopsis:

Arrow
Legends of Yesterday (Ep# 408)
PART TWO OF THE EPIC CROSSOVER WITH “THE FLASH” — Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Barry Allen (guest star Grant Gustin) take Kendra Saunders (guest star Ciara Renée) and Carter Hall (guest star Falk Henstchel) to a remote location to keep them hidden from Vandal Savage (guest star Casper Crump) while they figure out how to defeat him. Malcolm (John Barrowman) arranges a meeting between Vandal, Green Arrow and The Flash that doesn’t go as planned. Meanwhile, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), Thea (Willa Holland), Diggle (David Ramsey) and Laurel (Katie Cassidy) work with Team Flash to come up with a weapon powerful enough to destroy Vandal Savage. Thor Freudenthal directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Marc Guggenheim and teleplay by Brian Ford Sullivan & Marc Guggenheim (#408). Original airdate 12/2/2015.

  1. The best episode of Arrow this season.

  2. A lot of fun, this got me even more psyched for the “Legends of Tomorrow” premiere. Oh, it’s spelled “Shayera”, not “Chay-ara”.
